Born in Walton, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late E. Frederick ""Fred"" and Lulu (Burgess) Smith. She studied nursing at the Yarmouth Hospital and during her training traveled throughout the Maritime Provinces and into the United States. She was later employed at the former Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville, from where she retired. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Rick) Hansen, South Ohio, Yarmouth Co.; son, Frederick ""Fred"" (Dorothy), South Alton, Kings Co.; grandchildren, John Hansen (Holly), Yarmouth; Darren Hansen (Melissa), Winnipeg, Man.; Kimberly (Brent) O'Connor, Dartmouth; great-grandson, Timothy John; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, John, in October of 2004; daughter, Susan; brothers, Ralph and Harold. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. today in W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, Rev. Leon Langille and Rev. Rick Small officiating. Private family burial will take place in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, Kings Co. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or South Alton Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.C.
