    3. Thanks to all who answered my question about a "blind pig". Now another question ( I really have to start going to bed earlier instead of doing all this research ;-) ). The date...1923..William S McDonald ..a three sticker schooner...???? I know ships have to be registered etc. but somehow I don't think that this is what this term is referring to. Can anyone help?? Cheers from sunny but cool Ont. Elaine "Genealogy Without Documentation is Fiction"

    3. Hi Elaine: A schooner normally is two-masted but can be three-masted, so I expect it refers to the number of masts. Has anyone ever heard of a four-masted schooner? -----Bob H----- ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine English" <aries18@sympatico.ca> To: <Nova-Scotia-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 29, 2007 2:10 PM Subject: [NS-L] Three sticker schooner > Thanks to all who answered my question about a "blind pig". > Now another question ( I really have to start going to bed earlier instead > of doing all this research ;-) ). > > The date...1923..William S McDonald ..a three sticker schooner...???? > > I know ships have to be registered etc. but somehow I don't think that > this is what this term is referring to. > Can anyone help?? > > Cheers from sunny but cool Ont. > > Elaine > > "Genealogy Without Documentation is Fiction" > ---------------------------------------- > Basic List Commands: > > 1. 3. Elaine, I'm quite sure that "three sticker" means that the schooner had three masts (masts were commonly called sticks). A schooner is a vessel in which all masts are of the same height and which are rigged with fore-and-aft sails. While the typical schooner has two masts (as did the famous "Bluenose"), schooners have been built with up to seven masts (and possibly more). Hope this is of some help.
