Bill, An interesting compilation of names appears in the following site of Solomon Phipps of Charlestown, MA. There are many names that have appeared on our NS site. At least one of those listed had his house burned to the ground by the Colonists as he was a Loyalist. It seems likely that some in this grouping must have found their way to distant shores. One admonition...Charestown, at that time was in Middlesex County not Suffolk, as stated in the tome. Somerville, MA was later carved out of this piece of geography. Winter Hill, a fort under General Sullivan, later of NH. then part of Charlestown was one of the main holding areas for the Hessian prisoners while their General Reisdel (Sp.?) was on parole a few miles up the road on Tory Row (Loyalists) next to the Ruggles House and the Lechmere House. Lechmere, a Loyalist and a large property owner left, during the evacuation of Boston.. To reach Tory Road (Brattle Street) one would have to pass the Prospect Hill Fort, also prominent in the Bunker Hill activities. It was here that the captured British troops, under Burgoyne were held en mass, while he enjoyed the social life of parole, in Harvard Square, just a few steps from Brattle Street. My apologies for the length of my missile. http://freepages.generalogy.rootsweb.com/~walkersj/solomon.htm Al ----- Original Message ----- From: <Wmdperkins@aol.com> To: <nova-scotia@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 14, 2007 10:48 AM Subject: [NS-L] Roll Call: RUGGLES > Afternoon yall > > Would really be great if everyone listed the primary SURNAMES in their > Subject line.
