Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., 29 Oct 1942: ROBERT B. MURRAY Antigonish Robert B. Murray, 76, well known barber of Antigonish and other parts of the province for many years, passed away in St. Martha's Hospital following a brief illness. He had been living in Goldboro for a short time and it was from there that he was brought to the hospital early last week. Mr. Murray spent the greater part of his life in Antigonish, where he had many friends. Mr. Murray was a faithful member of the United Church. He was born at Maitland, son of William Murray and Harriet MacMillan Murray. He married 55 years ago, Miss Margaret MacKenzie, Truro and moved to Antigonish when a young man. Four sons, Robert, Mert, William and Earl, served with the Canadian Forces in World War No.1 Besides his widow, he is survived by his sons, Charlie, Truro; Robert, William in Toronto; Mert and Stanley in Montreal; James, Trenton; Earl, Debert. FRANK KERR An aged and highly respected citizen of the Middle River District passed away at her home in Middle River, in the person of Mrs. Frank Kerr, at the age of 82 years. She was the former Mary McLeod and was born at Pleasant Valley. A brother was the late John Walter McLeod of Westville and other members of her family who predeceased her were Norman and William and one sister who passed away many years ago. Her husband passed away two years ago, and survivors in her immediate family include four sons and one daughter,- George T. Kerr, Daniel W. Kerr, James Kerr, Raymond Kerr, all of Middle River and Mrs. Minnie Geddes of Hopewell; her two nieces in Westville, Mrs. John D. Dunbar and Miss Margaret MacLeod, attended the funeral service held Friday afternoon at the Middle River Church which was conducted by Rev. Donald MacDonald. The interment was made at the Middle River cemetery. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Rev.Dr. J.F. MacMaster Nabou Rev. Dr. John Francis MacMaster, 77, whose death occured at Mabou on Friday was born at Glen Road, Antigonish Co., October 4, 1867. His parents were the late Angus MacMaster and Margaret Cameron MacMaster. He received his early education in the common school there and later entered St.F.X. University, graduating in 1894 with the degrees of Ph.D. and S.T.L. He was ordained in the great bascilica of St. John Lateran, Rome, by the Cardinal Parocchion, May 18, 1894. Returning to his native county, he was appointed parish priest of Mabou in October of the same year. Never was a change made and there he remained till October, 1937, when failing health forced him to resign. During his long pastorate of 43 years he labored with truly apostolic zeal in the cause of God and his church. Many were the ties that bound him to the good people of Mabou. Ever the friend of the downtrodden, the suffering and the poor, no one regardless of color or creed ever sought his help in vain. Deep and widespread will be the sorrow felt at the death of a truly great servant of God. Surviving are three brothers, Dr. D.J. MacMaster, Antigonish; Donald MacMaster, Glen Road; and Peter MacMaster, Addington Forks. One sister, Mrs. Mary MacGillivray of Antigonish also survives.
