>From www.corkumfuneralhome.ca Malcolm Gordon Parks 1924-2010 PARKS, Malcolm Gordon , 85, Petite Riviere, passed away March 13, 2010 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born April 7, 1924 in Petite Riviere, he was a son of the Late William and Mildred (Reinhardt) Parks. He was predeceased by his brother Ronald and Granddaughter Moragh Jane Parks. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Louise (Johnstone), his son Drew (Clare) and his daughters Charlotte (Stephen) McShane, Catherine (John) Bell, Eleanor (Jamie) Sullivan; 14 grandchildren and two Great-grandchildren. After Surviving overseas in the Second World War, he attended Dalhousie University where he received his BA and MA and University of Toronto where he received his PHD. His musical abilities were showcased during his student years playing violin in the Dal Symphony Orchestra and trumpet in the Dal Brass Band and Don Warner's Dance Band. He joined the faculty of the Department of English of Dalhousie University in 1956 and served as Professor of English Literature until his retirement in 1989. During these years, his special interest in Joseph Howe and T.C. Haliburton led to writing and editing several publications and reviews about their lives. Upon his retirement, he researched and published "The Rising Village; a History of Petite Riviere", which was a labour of love for him. He will be remembered as a scholar and a gentleman. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. As requested, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
