Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Thursday, 26 Nov 1942: WILLIAM JOHN FRASER There passed away at the home of his son, W.S. Fraser, Nelson Street, on Monday evening, November 16th, William John Fraser. The late Mr. Fraser who was born at Barney's River, was 85 years of age. Leaving the farm in early life he moved his family first to Trenton, coming to New Glasgow more than 40 years ago. Practically ever since Mrs. Fraser's death he has been in failing health, and for more than a year now has been ably and tenderly cared for by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. W.S. Fraser, the former Rita MacDonald, R.N. He leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. J.K. MacLeod of South San Francisco, and Jean in New Glasgow; three sons, David in Redstone, B.C., Ray in West Vancouver, and William in New Glasgow. A son and a daughter predeceased him. The funeral service, held at his son's home, Nelson Street, on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, was conducted by Rev. W.A. Cunningham, D.D. of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Interment was at Kenzieville Cemetery, beside his wife and daughter. The sincerest sympathy is extended to Mr. W.S. Fraser, Nelson Street, and his sister, Miss C.Jean Fraser, the popular stenographer, Maritime Building, in the death of their beloved father as recorded above. He was one of the fine elder citizens of the county and his passing is deeply mourned. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Mrs. NEIL MacDONALD Following a short illness the death of Mrs. Neil MacDonald, a mother of a well known family, occured at her home in Thorburn. Mrs. MacDonald was the former Mary Fraser, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Fraser and was in her ninetieth year. Her funeral service was held from her late home, conducted by Rev. J.B. Humphreys. The interment was made in the cemetery at MacLellan's Brook. Her husband passed away a number of years ago. In her immediate family she is survived by one son, Dr. T.G. MacDonald, Calgary, Alberta; and by three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Blackwood, New Glasgow; Mrs. D.B. MacDonald, Thorburn; and Mrs.(Dr.) Phillips, Newton, Mass. Fraser of Meadowville, Picou County, took place at his home there after a brief illness. Mr. Fraser was born 67 years ago and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Fraser of that place. He is survived by his wife who, previous to her marriage was Isabella Baillie of Diamond, Pictou County, and by three daughters,, Anna, Mrs Fraser Urquhart of Telford; Jean of Sutherland's River and Luella at home; and by three sons, Elmer and Edward at home and Chester, serving overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces.
