Thursday, 12 Nov 1942: Aged Trio Killed When Train Hits Truck At Crossing LIVERPOOL, N.S., Nov.11- Two women and one man, all around the 70-year mark were killed at nearby Huntspoint yesterday when their truck was hit by a train on a level crossing there. Newman F. Stanfield To Be Held Saturday The funeral of the late Walter G. Stanfield, who died suddenly at his home in Vancouver, on Saturday, in his 65th year, will be held from St. John's Anglican Church, Truro on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with the rector Rev.G.R. Thompson officiating. The late Mr. Stanfield was a brother of the late Lieutenant- Govenor Frank Stanfield and the late Senator John Stanfield of Truro. He is survived by his wife and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Smith, 111 Smith Avenue, Truro and Miss Eleanor Stanfield, recently of 44 Dominion Street, Truro. Two nephews reside in Truro, Councillor Frank T. Stanfield, President of Stanfield's Ltd., and Charles E. Stanfield, Vice-President of Stanfield's Ltd., and another nephew Gordon D. Stanfield resides in New Glasgow. Many years ago Mr. Stanfield conducted a wholesale Stationary business in Truro, under the firm name of Stanfield and Smith, his partner being the late Frank Smith, his brother-in-law, who later became Postmaster. Later Mr. Stanfield became associated with the Eastern Car Company, New Glasgow, and the British Empire Steel and Coal Company, Sydney, before establishing his own company. He retired one and one half years ago and moved to Vancouver with his wife. A message was received by relatives announcing the death on Monday, November 2nd of Mrs. Frank S. Tanner of Everett, Mass. Mrs. Tanner, nee Mary L. Grant, lived in Trenton and North Sydney, where she was well known and well liked. Surviving in her immediate home are her husband, a daughter, Jean, Mrs. Thomas Swan, Watertown, Mass. and a son, Harold of the U.S.A. Forces and also her aunt, Miss Christy MacLellan, with whom Mrs. Tanner lived after the death of her parents while she was a very young child.
