Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Tuesday, 17 Nov 1942: PERSONALS Clyde Henderson of Stellarton, a C.N.R. trainman on the Pictou yard shunter was badly injured yesterday when caught between two cars. ROSS- A Salisbury, N.B., to Dr. and Mrs. Alton Ross (nee Betty Bauld) on Thursday, November 12th, a daughter. Mrs. MacDonald, wife of W.C. MacDonald,K.C., M.P., has returned to Halifax from Ottawa where she was visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Smyth. Mrs. Spurgeon Gammon was the guest of friends in Halifax and the Valley last week, returning home on Saturday. Mrs. F. Walker, Cedar St., spent the last two weeks with her daughter, Mrs. J. Walter Cockrane, and left Sunday for New Glasgow to spend the winter with her son, Bandmaster Laurie Walker and family.-Windsor Tribune. Mrs. Harold Oxley, who has been the guest of her cousin, Miss Anna Carmichael, the past week, left yesterday for her home in Halifax. She was accompanied by her sister-in-law, Mrs. R.M. MacGregor, who will spend this week in Halifax, the guest of Mrs. Oxley. Mrs. Duncan Fraser of Stillwater, Guysborough Co., who has been here for treatment and has been the guest of Mrs. H.S. Williams, Sutherland's River, returned home last week. We are glad to state that Mrs. Fraser is much improved and is, we trust, on the road to restored good health. Miss Ida Fraser, of the staff of the Royal Bank of Canada here, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Fraser, Stillwater. Mrs. Alex Dickson of Toronto is the guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Major J. Geddie and Mrs. Cotter. Miss Helen Gordon, who is shortly to be married to Lieut. Gregory Lovett, R.C.A., S.C.(C.A.), of Halifax, is the guest this week of her mother, Mrs. A.R. Gordon, Herbert St. Mr. John Sperdaykes, of Sydney and formerly of New Glasgow, was a visitor here this week. His friends were indeed glad to see him. Mrs. C.W. Anderson of Sherbrooke is visiting in Halifax, a guest at the Lord Nelson Hotel. Mrs. Thomas Fraser, who has been the guest of relatives in Blue Mountain and of her aunt, Mrs. Catherine Murray, Marsh St., left for her home in Montreal on Saturday. Her many friends in New Glasgow were delighted to see Mrs. Fraser again. While here she visited relatives in Halifax for a few days. Major and Mrs. Harold Cassidy were the guests over the week-end of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Murray, Provost Street. Today they will go to Tatamagouche to visit relatives and friends there. Major Cassidy is on leave from Newfoundland, where he is stationed. Recently their son, Roland, suffered an attack of polio but has made a fine recovery. The many friends in New Glasgow of Major and Mrs. Cassidy were delighted to meet them again. Dr. and Mrs. A.E. Blackett had the pleasure last evening of welcoming Miss Jeanette Batterbury, the young daughter of English friends, who will make her home with them for the duration.Coming via Toronto, she was welcomed by Mr.J. Dix Fraser, a native of New Glasgow, who saw her safely on the train to Montreal where she was welcomed and looked after by Mr. Arthur Morton, editor of the Montreal Herald, also a Nova Scotian. Mrs. Raleigh Smith has returned after visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs.Raleigh D. Smith, at St. George's , N.S., and also a short time with her friend Mrs. G.R.
