Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Thursday, 12 Nov 1942: JAMES W. PATTON Ponds, Merigomish Following several years of failing health the death of James W. Patton, occured at his home Ponds , Merigomish, at the age of 74 years. With the exception of several months spent at the Klondike during the early days of the gold rush, all his life was spent in the community of Merigomish. His funeral service was held Friday afternoon, Nov.6th, from the home of his nephew, Wesley Arbuckles and was attended by several of his New Glasgow relatives. The interment was made at the Murray Point cemetery. The surviving members of his family include three sisters and two brothers--Mrs. Charles M. Dyment, of Wenawatchwere, Washington,D.C,; Mrs. George Arbuckles, Ponds, Merigomish; Mrs. Clarence Patton, New Glasgow; Charles Patton of Lundbreck, Alberta and J. DUNN Merigomish There passed away at her home in Merigomish on Monday morning, November 2nd, Jean Grant, wife of John W. Dunn, in her eightieth year. The daughter of the late Robert and Elinor Brown. Mrs. Dunn was a lifelong member of this community. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and the Women's Missionary Society and for several years was the leader of the choir. She was interested in and an active worker in every good cause in the community. A woman of rare Christian character, she will be long remembered for her kindly and neighbourly deeds. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Catherine and Jeanne of Halifax; Juliet of Boston; two sons, Harold of Boston, and Robert at home; one sister, Mrs. Sara MacIntosh of New Glasgow, and two brothers, Will of California, and David, New Glasgow. The funeral service from her late residence was conducted by Rev.F.G. MacDonald, assisted by Rev. C.G. Ward. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx JOHN F. ANDERSON Central West River The death occured in Sutherland Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Nov.5th, of John F. Anderson, well known lumber dealer of Central West River, following a brief illness. His death was a shock to his many friends, who did not know that his illness was serious. He leaves to mourn his passing, one son, Reginald, Central West River, and one daughter, Bay, barrister, New Glasgow. His wife predeceased him two years ago. The funeral, which was largely attended, was held from his home on Sunday afternoon with Rev.Lloyd MacLellan of Scotsburn conducting the service. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ALEXANDER ROSS Alexander Ross, well known business man and proprietor of Ross Dairy, Sydney, died in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, Saturday noon after having been ill since February at his home, 126 Charlotte St., Sydney, and in the hospital there for the past six weeks. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Sarah McVicar, of Glace Bay and two brothers, Dr.W.H. Ross of Washington,D.C., and J.H. Ross, New Glasgow. The remains rested at the Halifax Funeral Home until Sunday evening, when they were forwarded to New Glasgow. A service was held at the home of his brother, J.H. Ross, Marsh St., conducted by Rev. C.R.F. MacLennan.The body was forwarded yesterday morning to the place of his birth, at River John, Pictou County, where a service was held at the United Church at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
