The EasternChronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Tuesday, 02 Oct 1942: C.N. R. Official, Native of Whycocomagh, Dies Edmonton, Nov.24- J.H. McKinnon, 60, General superintendent of Canadian National Railways in Alberta and one of western Canada's veteran railway officials, died in hospital yesterday. Born at Whycocomagh, Cape Breton, he joined the Canadian Northern Railway in 1902 at Winnipeg. Later he held posts in Canada and the United States and in 1939 was appointed General Superintendent of the Alberta district with headquarters at Edmonton. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx FATAL ACCIDENTS IN CAPE BRETON Neil R. Matheson, 40, died in hospital, in Sydney, Saturday, shortly after he had been run over by a train while on his way to work in the blast furnace of the steel plant. A native of Marion Bridge, the victim was single and living here with his only brother, Dan Matheson, Douglas Place. He was a son of the late Dan Matheson, who died several years ago. The deceased was a member of St. Andrew's Church congregation. He had been employed at the steel plant for some years. Joseph Fougere, 14, of Poulamond, was shot and killed by a youthful companion in a hunting accident near his home in Richmond County, Tuesday. Fougere, accompanied by George Robert Dauphinee, 15; Hubert Stanley MacDonald,13; Donald Burke, 15 and Francis MacDonald,15, was in the woods setting rabbit snares near their homes at the time of the mishap. Fougere, who carried a gun to the woods had walked off to test the strength of the ice on a small pond nearby. The gun was picked up by Stanley MacDonald, who was unaware the firearm was loaded.
