    3. The Eastern Chronicle. New Glasgow, N.S., 24 Sep 1936: Word has been received here of the splendid work being achieved on the African Gold Coast by Dr. John Denoon, son of the late Rev. John Denoon, D.D. and Mrs. Denoon. Dr. Denoon , who is a Dalhousie graduate, is physician in charge of a territory 7000 miles square, requiring constant travelling through the African bush. The sleeping sickness is the greatest menace and two large hospitals and five dispensaries to fight this dread disease are situated at widely separate points. Dr. Denoon is also doing research work in the hope of alleviating the suffering caused by this tropical scrouge. Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Fraser of Cambridge, Mass., was in New Glasgow this week seeing Mr. Fraser's father Mr. Alex J. Fraser, Abercrombie Road. They made the trip here by motor and left to visit Mrs. Fraser's former home in Prince Edward Island. Mr. Donald F. Curry of Halifax, was a week end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Fraser, Stellarton. Mr. Joseph MacDonald of Big Island was a visitor in New Glasgow on Tuesday. Mrs. H.A. Frame spent the week end with Miss Margaret Bannerman on the teaching staff of the home at Barney's River. Mrs. Scott MacDonald and small son, Scotty, were guests over the week end of Mrs. MacDonald's mother, Mrs. W.D. Fife, Queen St., Truro. Mrs. W.H. Matheson spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Neil S. Ross, Truro on Tuesday. Her sister, Miss Marion Ross left Truro on Tuesday morning to visit relatives in New York. Mrs. John Collie, wife of Dr. John Collie, London, England, is visiting with Dr. and Mrs. R.M. Benvie. Mrs. Collie is vacationing at Dr. Collie's former home, River John. Mrs. and Mrs. W.T.(F?) Fraser and family spent the week end with Mrs. Fraser's father, Dr. R.C. Tait, Shediac. They had motored their daughter Katherine to Sackville for her second year at Mount Allison University. They met their son Chesley, who had been visiting in Toronto for a fortnight, at Shediac and brought him back. Trenton Scotias won the first game of the Nova Scotia finals by defeating the Lunenburg All Stars, yesterday before over two thousand fans by 15 to 6 score. The Scotias drove out 19 hits including two home runs by Hessian and Dec. Dunn was given good support by his team. He allowed only six hits and fanned 11. Sonny MacDonald, with five hits in six times up, was the batting star of the game. He was closely followed by Bransfield and V.
