Good Morning Listers -   I have searched and searched online for a photo of the Roma Monument in P.E.I., to no avail.  I would like to know what the plaque says.  Could someone direct me to a website with this information?   Thanks in advance, Sherry    

Hi Sherry, I looked around as well, and I'm surprised that there is not a picture on the www.roma3rivers.com site, I wonder if it is still standing? In any case, back in 1997, we were in Souris, PEI for my brother-in-law's wedding and we detoured there and got some pictures (pre-digital camera). My close up of the plaque is not close up enough, part of it is in shadow, but as best as I can see it says: Roma at Three Rivers Here in 1732 Jean Pierre Roma founded a base for control of the Gulf Fisheries and for Trade with France (--?--) and the West Indies. His establishment was destroyed after the Fall of Louisbourg in 1745. There is a title at the top I can't read which may be in Latin, then the above is in French and then in English, with something small at the bottom, possibly a date?? I'm missing a word after France, probably a place, I can't make it out in the French section either, but I'm guessing maybe Quebec. I'll send you the photos separately. I did see a photo of the monument but the archeologists are all standing in front of the plaque, so you can't read the words. I will send it to you off line.
