My questions are How should I go about finding a loyalist land petition from 1783 in Nova Scotia? And how would I know if the petition was granted or not? If a petition was filed in Nova Scotia, could land have been given in Upper Canada? The reason I ask is on Ancestry.ca there is a book entitled LOYALISTS AND LAND SETTLEMENT IN NOVA SCOTIA / A LIST COMPILED BY MARION GILROY. In Appendix A, there is an example of two petitions from loyalists in 1783 (I think living in New York) to show "that even in 1783 the Loyalists themselves differed as to character and temper." John George GRAVES and Adam GRAVES are two of the men filing the second petition demanding land. They both received land by crown patent in Upper Canada in 1797, but there is not a copy of their petition for the land in the Upper Canada petitions in Toronto. It's probably a long shot, but I hope this petition is the reason they got their land in Upper Canada and there's some way to prove that.
