Hurdcott (Marched In) Admitted to 5th D.R.S. - Hellux, Valgus (valgus is a deformity of part of a joint so it seems he had developed this during service and was on duties away from the front line.) Trans. to Gen.Hosp Reuin (I assume this is the General Hospital at  Rouen, France) (I think Rouen is what is meant here.) Discharged from Hosp. and M/I to A.D.B.D. Etaples (Etaples was the main staging point and centre for record keeping .. if the records ever got that far, going to and from the battle fields.) Attached to No.3.A.G.H. 3. I was using it this am without issue. Try another browser such as firefox or google chrome to see if the problem is still there. If the problem goes away, its your current browser. If the problem persists, its you computer system. I forget what plugin is used. Probably Flash or some such, which would then need to be reinstalled. Turns out it is a bunion deformity! Apparently very painful - bad ailment for a private soldier in WWI The last item in the service record reads: Discharged from the A.I.F. at Melbourne - Medically Unfit - Disability - Bunion Ct. Right Toe. So, we live and learn. Thanks folks. John John D. Wilson Windsor, NS

    3. Hello: You may want to ask someone on the list to check the city directories for that period and see what other names are listed. As John says there are entries for O'keefe on the Halifax Obits index, too many to list here and additional names would be helpful. Also do you know what religion they might be? 3. Hi John: The Horowhenua FHS (in New Zealand) had published an excellent list of WWI abbreviations used by the commonwealth countries - available at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nzllbsg/pdf/Abbreviation_Master.pdf You could also try googling "WWI abbreviations" and "WWI Australian abbreviations" - some of these might be specifically Australian terms/shortforms. Taking a stab for a few, I'd say: "M/I to 15th Tng.Bn. Hurdcott" - marched in to the 15th training brigade at Hurdcott? "Admitted to 5th D.R.S. - Hellux, Valgus" - admitted to 5th division rest station at Hellus, Valgus? (is there such a place?) Good luck! Jenn ;) On 19 February 2012 17:33, John D. I know I have lots and if I have a few and some others have a few, the list you will have to look up yourself will be much smaller. But are there libraries outside of Halifax...yes, Nova Scotia is more than just Halifax!! (preferably in the valley) that would have obituary microfilms for 1961 to 1992? I have a really large list and would like to look them up myself and not have to pay people to look them up for me or beg volunteers. It gets frustrating. ---------------------------------------- Basic List Commands: 1. To post to the list Send a message to: NOVA-SCOTIA-L@rootsweb.com 2. How to unsubscribe a. 3. You can bring in microfilm on inter-library loan to any Library that has a film reader.
