No, what I am reading is the 1901 and 1911 census, where in one the family is Schnare; the other Snair. 1901 he is listed as James I.; 1911 he is listed as Isaiah. Well actually as ?iah, but it is Isaiah. >> My brick wall is the James from East River Point. Who were his >> parents? Where is he buried?? When did he die?? And sorry but most of the previous posts on this family are from me. I seem to be the only person currently researching this particular line of Schnare/Snairs. I would really appreciate it if you would stop assuming that anyone who posts to the list is either a beginning genealogist, or an idiot. Isaiah's own children do not know their family history, and the only one currently who may have known, no longer remembers ANY family. Not that that is any of your business, but you make far too many assumptions, sir and I for one would wish that you stop. Sometimes your further information is quite good and quite useful, and I thank you for doing that for other posters. But the tone in which it is presented really needs to change. > bob gillis > > > > >> > ---------------------------------------- > Basic List Commands: > > 1. 3. Don I believe this is your family in the 1871 Pictou census: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1871/001101-119.02-e.php?person_id_nbr=723337&interval=50&i=jpg&PHPSESSID=b76e5pqkt58vc8atirfksn0r72 The Alice, age 1, should probably be Alex, as according to his date of birth in the NSVitals (31 Oct 1869), he wouldn't be 2 years old until Oct 1871. Someone out there who is an Ancestry.ca subscriber might find William's birth record, as there is a William H Landry listed in the Drouin collection of BMD records. 3. Sue: You have run into one of the Schnare brick walls. Isaiah James Snair, was the son of James Schnare and Mary Brigley. Their marriage is recorded as November 29, 1877. From the vitals sight, it looks like her name was Mary Margaret. It is also obvious from the marriage register, that the marriage slip was missing, so no info on parents is given. That being said, it would appear from the 1871 census, that James, along with his brother Caleb, was living with a woman named Barbara Frail. Caleb's marriage in 1879 to Lucy Cleveland, lists his parents as John and Anne. But, we have two more names, but we still can't figure out who the John and Anne are. If you or any other people on the list know who this John and Anne are, there are many people who would like to know. 2. Just in case someone has discovered anything new... I am still trying to find a mystery family of Schnare/Snair. Laura B. Rafuse and Isaiah James Snair married 1914 in Halifax County. In the record it states his parents as James and Mary from East River Point. I believe this is the family in the 1901 Chester East census: 12 58 Schnare James M Head M Jun 24 1853 47 13 58 Schnare Mary A F Wife M Aug 17 1853 48 14 58 Fleet Lottie B F Daug W Mar 30 1878 22 15 58 Schnare Carrie MF Daug S Aug 10 1880 20 16 58 Schnare James I M Son S Sep 16 1884 16 Isaiah had a falling out with dad, and changed his name from James Isaiah Schnare to Isaiah James Snair. (This was the family story. I think perhaps it is more likely his name was misspelled at some point, and he did not correct it.The switch was probably a german naming convention of the son being named as the father, but the family using the middle name as the proper.) My brick wall is the James from East River Point. Who were his parents? Where is he buried?? When did he die?? I can't seem to find any information that can take this family back further, and link them with the rest of the Schnare/Snair family groups. Any help, as always, greatly appreciated... Sue

    2. Dwayne Meisner
    3. Hi All, As some you may have noticed, I am still working out a few kinks in the new website, www.dwaynemeisner.com . I have set up a few checkpoints that alert me when there are errors, and I know I have cleared most of them, but I am still getting a few emails from the reporter that users are seeing the 404 error page. It usually seems to happen when people are using the index pages for the census and BMD sections. I am unable to duplicate the errors when I try the pages. I would appreciate it if you could email me the details of these errors when they occur, so I can get the last few problems worked out. I would like to know the address of the page you were visiting just before the error occurred, and what you were doing at the time of the error - either clicking on a link or using the search boxes. Any feedback would be great! Thanks, as always, Dwayne

    3. Hi All - As a emailed Carol, I've had far better luck with the search engine at Collections Canada by typing in less information. I often use the asterisk/wild card option. This morning I typed in F* for surname and filled in the place fields, Ontario, Stormont and Roxborough. What I got was all the surnames starting with F but got to one "Donald Farbes". Donald Farbes, however, is listed as Donald Forbes in the 1881 census, was in the first too but the transcriber saw it as FARBES. Another option I've used is common variants using the first three characters for starters. I've found some success using Mc*Farlan* for the endless butchering of that surname. It's annoying but that's my coping skill with that search engine.
