After researching a bit for Bonnie on Rev. D. Luther Roth, I came across some interesting information about a book that seems to hold some historical riches, especially in regards to Lunenburg (not on that list, so feel free to repost this there. Anyway, the book title (see subject line) was published in 1890, and is quite fascinating. It's available through various booksellers in hardcopy and reprints, and also as a PDF file, for those more e-book inclined, it can be found at: http://archive.org/details/acadieandacadia00rothgoog There, it can be downloaded as PDF, also for ePub and Kindle readers. As a PDF it is just over 15Mb in size. Without Bonnie having posted looking for information on Rev. Roth, I'd never have discovered this little gem. Roth, b. @1848 (25-Oct-1847, in Pennsylvania) US His wife, Melisa (Melina), b. @1849, US Son, Paul Roth, b. @1877, US Daughter, Winifred, b. @1879, NS (Lun Co.) MAY have had a brother, George W. Roth, 1844-1925, who had a son, Luther, as well. This younger Luther is one who married Caroline E. Menchey, on 18-May-1897, at Biglerville, Adams Co, PA. In an 1876 Philadelphia directory, there is a "D. Luther Roth" listed as a student, residing at 216 Franklin. 1890-1894, Albany NY directories: "Roth D. Luther Rev. pastor, Church of the Redeemer, h. Lake av. cor. Western av." (this appears to have been an Evangelical Lutheran church) 1901 Pittsburgh, PA directory: ROTH: Rev D Luther 79 S. 24th (also at that location, Paul W. Roth, student) In actual fact, he was David Luther Roth. Also had a son, Carl C., b. @1888, PA. He was living with Carl in 1930 US Census for Beloit, Rock Co, Wisconsin. He was then 82. The so called site is only partly up and running. What we are talking about is the so called Holbrook collection - Massachusetts boasts some of the oldest and most extensive sources of vital records in the United States, and some of the documents in this database go back to the colony's earliest days. They were made more readily accessible through the efforts of Jay and DeLene Holbrook. About 30 years ago, the Holbrooks began filming vital and town records in Massachusetts. To date, the Holbrooks have visited 315 of the state's 351 towns and cities and filmed their holdings of vital and town records. This database contains a wide variety of those records, including birth and baptismal registers, intention of marriage and marriage records, courthouse records, and death registers. While a number of towns are on the site, there is also a list of towns to come. Places like Reading, Haverhill, Cambridge, Acton have not been put on the site yet. I don't think there is a set cutoff, as the Holbrooks did this over a number of years. But I have found records in Lunenburg from 1943. Definitely will be a good resource.

If anyone reads my messages of 30 Mar they should get a good idea of what I think is on Ancestry. The current cut off date for released MA VRs is 1915. The Holbrook fiche were filmed some years ago and the cut of date usually reflected what the cut off was at the time of filming. If you go to the Archives Publishing at http://www.archivepublishing.com/books/books_MA.htm you will see what the cut off dates for the fiche are and what Ancestry purchased. The latest record date I saw was 1915/6 for a few towns even though some were filmed in 1988. The latest date for the eastern part of the Commonwealth was 1915 which was filmed i 2004. This is what Ancestry says about the collection. There was a big article in the Boston Globe about this collection recently about the selling of this collection of records to Ancestry. It may have different information than the Tan books because the Tan books also included information from Bibles, cemeteries, and church records among other things. >From what I can tell, someone has "matched up" any SSDI records or MA Death Index records, to the birth dates on many individuals. That's the only explanation for some of these dates after 1915, actually. There MAY be some hit and miss marriage or death records between 1915 and, say, 1937. However, that's per town rules, not state.
