    1. [NS-L] Lunenburg County Nova Scotia - Census Records
    2. Dwayne Meisner
    3. Hi All, My site, www.dwaynemeisner.com now has the complete set of census records for Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. These records include the years from 1838 to 1911, with the exception of 1851, as no records exist for that year. I am aware that some of the records are available on other sites, but now you have the option to search all the records in one place, which should save some time. As usual, you can get to the census records from the interactive map, which is here: www.dwaynemeisner.com/census/novascotia/index.php . Once on the map page, click "Lunenburg" to see the list of available years. In addition, all the records are searchable by using the census search engine, which can be found on every page of the site by clicking the Search Panel button at the top right of the page. Also, you can hover over the Main Menu link which allows you to access the interactive map from the menu, and below that, I have added a "Submit a Correction" link so you can fill out a form related to the census records that may need to be corrected. Remember, you have to a member of the site to view the records. Registration is FREE! Dwayne

I know this couple forward and I know all about Marlings............... Question is? Who was Jacob Everett and who was Cecilia ? Cecilia was married second to John Dunbar. Can not fit him into a family either! All of the above took place in Digby County, Nova Scotia. Hope someone can shed some light. Many thanks, Cynthia in Massachusetts

    2. OK, last try. No idea why the URL copied previously from the site will not connect. For Annapolis 1784 Muster list: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-909.003-e.html Go down to "Ward Chipman Muster Master's Office..." That takes you to a search page. Note the 'British Headquarters Papers' are the same as 'Carleton Papers' held at UNB. Carol The Harriett Irving Llibrary/UNB Loyalist services are found at: http://www.lib.unb.ca/collections/loyalist/about.html A direct email address is cjack@unb.ca For anyone who may not be aware, Sir Guy Carleton was "Commander-in-Chief of all His Majesty's Forces in North America" in 1783, and it seems all requests/petitions for relief of distress had to be approved by him or a designate. If James Everett's family (there were 10) was in dire circumstances and he made a petition for immediate relief, etc. a document might have survived. It may give details of their situation. Worth an enquiry.

    3. Barbara, I truly wish I had been able to surprise you. I'd have felt as good about it as you would. However, I'm afraid that's not to be. Not only did I check all ten volumes of "Maine Families of 1790", but checked the 1790 Federal Census for Maine. There were no Williams or Richards listed. There is one Joseph listed, showing 1 male over 16, two males under 16, and 3 females. The location was Sandy River, Maine. That's the Farmington, Maine area. However, I suppose Joseph could have had Richard in, or after, 1810. You might try sending an e-mail query to Flossie@megalink.net - she is the contact person for the Sandy River Chapter of the Maine Genealogical Society. Perhaps she could be of some help to you. We can only hope. Cynthia At 11:59 AM 4/13/2012, you wrote: >Hi Cynthia, how nice of you to offer a look up, and wonder if you >could check your Maine families of 1790 for me. 3. Elizabeth, The Alexander mentioned in my query to the Nova Scotia List was not a surname but a given name. I am not researching Alexander families. I could not promise you that I could be of any help, but would try. For my purposes, I do not need that material for my own research. Thank you. 2. Pictou is a First Nations' surname..still used today. Newville is in Cumberland County, between Springhill and Parrsboro. The lake there was used by the Springhill & Parrsboro (later Cumberland Coal Co.) Railway, to produce ice for summer time transportation of blueberries etc. The ice was cut in winter (of course) and stored in large sheds insulated thoighout the hot season with sawdust. 3. Cynthia, As I'm not sure in which direction your searching, I just did a quick look-see to what I could find using only two resources - AutomatedGenealogy.como and novascotiagenealogy.com Here are my "results"... Jared Seems a sad story, but here goes. References used shown prior to information gleaned. NS VR site (novascotiagenealogy.com) shows Lina M. Gammon, m. Alexander Picton (Pictou?), 20-Dec-1922, at the rectory (CoE) in Shelburne, NS. She was listed as born in Doctor's Cove, d/o William Gammon and "Euda" Armstrong. Alexander, 25, listed his POB as ?Neuville?, Cumberland Co, NS, parents as Samuel Picton, b. Scotland, and Mary Ellen Picton (perhaps not her maiden name?) William (fisherman) m. Eudivilla Armstrong, 14-Nov-1891, (Methodist) Shelburn, Shelburne Co, NS.; he was 20, bachelor, she was 22, spinster. He was b. Doctor's Cove, so Richard (a blacksmith) and ?Katherine?, She was b. Jordan, d/o William and Eleanor. Alexander Pictou d. 12-Jul-1956 of colon cancer, at Halifax, NS (Victoria Gen. Hosp). Born 12-Mar-1897, NS, no parents known/listed. The informant was Alexander's son-in-law, Glen Roache of Lockeport, NS. Alexander was buried 14-Jul-1956, Clyde River, NS Alexander apparently married twice. 2nd time, as widower in 1927, to Cassie P. Nickerson, when he was 27. His parents on that record listed as Stanley Smith and Marianne Picton. Showing he was b. Cumberland Co, that his father was b. Amherst, NS. Knowing that, I found "Lena" May Pictou, d. 15-Jan-1927, of pulmonary tuberculosis Atwoods Brook, Shelburne Co, NS. Shows her b. NS 16-Aug-1903, (she was only 23) and parents listed as William Gammon and "Utavilla" Armstrong. Her father was the informant. He was of Atwoods Brook, and that was where she was buried on 17-Jan-1927. I suspect, then, that Amelia was primarily raised by her step-mother, Cassie, at least until she was about 11, when Cassie died, 22? June 1927, at Clyde River, Shelburne Co, NS. If "Alex" married a third time, I could find no record. 1911 Canada Census for Barrington Passage, Shelburne Co, NS (automatedgenealogy.com) 25 22 Gammon William M Head M Dec 1878 43 26 22 Gammon Eudvilla F Wife M Jun 1878 43 27 22 Gammon Charles M Son S Jun 1893 18 28 22 Gammon Elizabeth F Daughter S Sep 1897 14 29 22 Gammon Manis M Son S Sep 1889 12 30 22 Gammon Gracie F Daughter S Jun 1901 10 31 22 Gammon Lina F Daughter S Aug 1904 7 32 22 Gammon Clarance M Son S Sep 1907 4 1901 at Doctor's Cove: 2 11 14 Gammon William M Head M Dec 20 1862 38 2 12 14 Gammon Eudvilla F Wife M Jun 12 1868 32 2 13 14 Gammon Charles C M Son S Jun 2 1893 7 2 14 14 Gammon Annie F Daughter S Sep 24 1894 6 2 15 14 Gammon Elizabeth F Daughter S Sep 20 1896 4 2 16 14 Gammon William A M Son S Sep 1 1897 3 2 17 14 Gammon Grace A F Daughter S Jun 28 1900 1 Given this information, earlier family records may or may not come easier. Picton/Pictou connection given Alexander's information if slim pickings. On a hunch, here is a 'family group' found in Clyde in 1911 census (Shelburne Co, NS) that COULD be connected: 2 2 Pictou Mathew M Head M Nov 1874 36 3 2 Pictou Catherine F Wife M Mar 1881 30 4 2 Pictou Francis M Son S Mar 1908 3 5 2 Pictou Agnes F Daughter S May 1909 2 6 3 Pictou Joseph M Head S Mar 1878 33 7 3 Pictou William M Brother S Mar 1893 18 8 3 Pictou Robert M Brother S Apr 1897 14 (Robert Alexander or Alexander Robert?) 9 3 Pictou Jones M Brother S Dec 1899 11 (John?) 10 3 Pictou Annie F Sister S Oct 1901 9 The suspected match to above in 1901 census found in Jordan River, Shelburne, as follows: 11 3 91 Picto John M Head M Jun 12 1832 68 11 4 91 Picto Mary F Wife M Jun 7 1850 50 (could this be "Marianne" or Mary Ellen?) 11 5 91 Picto Elizabeth F Daughter S Mar 17 1876 24 11 6 91 Picto Joseph M Son S Sep 23 1877 23 11 7 91 Picto John M Son S Sep 23 1882 18 11 8 91 Picto James M Son S Jan 10 1885 15 11 9 91 Picto Samuel M Son S Aug 24 1886 14 11 10 91 Picto Lue M Son S Mar 4 1890 10 11 11 91 Picto Katie F Daughter S Oct 6 1892 8 11 12 91 Picto Robert M Grandson S Oct 1 1896 4 11 13 91 Picto John M Grandson S Apr 8 1899 1 Lots of digging, but no luck on my part. There are indications that some of this name were on the Indian Reservation in Cambridge, Kings Co, so wonder if that is one reason the records are difficult? > Greetings, > I am researching a Lina May Gammon, b. abt. 1904 in Shelburne, > Nova Scotia.
