Hello - I descend from Jacques and Marguerite, and know that they were held as prisoners at Fort Beausejour/Cumberland in 1763, per the prison list. What I am looking for is any information about their stay there, when they were imprisoned (1755?), and any details about them during this time. Perhaps they are mentioned in some historical books writtenabout that period. Thanks in advance, Sherry To post a message send to: ACADIAN-FRENCH-CANADIAN@rootsweb.com AFC list archives are located at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=acadian-french-canadian If you prefer to receive posts in digest format please contact the list administrator. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ACADIAN-FRENCH-CANADIAN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

I first wanted to THANK everyone who reponded to my first email regarding Alfred Mill's family. I am grateful for all of the help you gave to me. I am very excited to have found this new website to help me with finding my husband's family history in Nova Scotia. I am looking for more information on a family by the name of "WALSH" My husband's great-grandfather was named Alexander Walsh(1900-1964)/wife Sarah McGregor(1901-1958) Alexander's parents were Henry Walsh (1874-1930) and Catherine "Katie" Young(1877-Fev. 12,1951) I have very little info after that of who Henry's parents or Catherine's parents were. Can't seem to find any obituary or gravestone pictures (even though it says they ..Henry and Catherine... are in the St. Mary's cemetery in Syndey Mines area...Can't seem to locate their gravetsones) to help me to find further information on them or maybe who may be buried around them. All of Henry and Catherine's children were: I have some info from the 1901 census as well: Sarah Ann"Sadie" Walsh (married Daniel Peter MacIssac) Victoria Maude Walsh (married George Edward McNeil) Harry Walsh(Mary Ann MacIntyre) Alexander Walsh (my husband's great-grandfather)..married Sarah McGregor Catherine "Katie" Walsh (married Harry Jessome) William Francis Walsh(Florence??????) Has anybody ever heard of this family? I would love photos or anything anybody can help me with, regarding this family. Sincerely, Taina W .
Hi Judy, I have a Nicholas Rafuse, b. 04-Mar-1809, Lunenburg, he was son of Johann Philip Rafuse (Rehfus), who was b. 11-Jul-1762, Lunenburg Co. This family appears to have originated in Wuerttemberg, Germany. Johann married Anna Barbara Eisenhauer on 08-Dec-1789, Lunenburg Co. Might Daniel have been a brother (or maybe a cousin) to my Nicholas? Nicholas d. 1893, after removing from Chester, Lunenburg Co, to Port George area of Annapolis County. His son, David C Rafuse, b. 1837, d. 1908, m. a Sarah/Sadie (unk). I am not sure why these RAFUSEs appear in my database, as I see no connections to other families of note. Perhaps I once thought they had connected, or was trying to connect them without success. Jared > Hi Folks: > > Daniel Rafuse born in Lunenburg County moved to Kings County abt. 1850 ( I > think ). Hi Folks: Daniel Rafuse born in Lunenburg County moved to Kings County abt. 1850 ( I think ). Lucy Ann Rafuse, Daniel's third daughter, married George Sherman on 15th. June 1863. Catherine Elizabeth Rafuse, Daniel's fifth daughter, married John Westhaver on 04 May 1863. Rev. Abram Spurr Hunt, M.A. pastor of the Cornwallis First Baptist Church married both couples. In his marriage book Rev. Hunt says all marriage parties are of Cornwallis. I wonder if anyone has done the genealogy of Daniel Rafuse and his family? I also wonder if anyone has done the George Sherman/Lucy Ann Rafuse family genealogy? Thanking in advance. Judy Wile
Winifred, Would it be possible to check out your book to see if any of my Mills' are in it? I have Robert Mills who came to work on the Shubenacadie Canal as a stone mason (aka engineer) about 1826. He married Harriet Neilson. I have his father as Andrew who was a clockmaker as were most of the future Mills'. I have never been able to find their roots. Robert Mills came to Dartmouth from London where he had previously been working on the London Bridge. He married a clockmakers daughter and that family were from Belfast, Ireland. It wasn't unusual fro marriages to happen between families of like trades, i.e clockmakers/jewellers. Any help would be very much appreciated. My first cousin, Dorothy Parkman, in PEI had a mother named Jessie Mill and she married George Clark. In PEI In July my cousin will be 99 years old with a good mind. I believe the Mill family left Devon, England in 1842 for PEI as did the Parkman's. I don't know if it was the Clark line but in 1853 George told me he descends from Plymouth Colony, Mass. and I believe it was the connection between my husbands Doane line there. Some of the Doanes went to N S.
Taina, Noticed you were interested in the Mill's Family. Have a book on the Mill's Family from NS. One of my grandfathers(Clark) married a Charlotte Mills as his second wife in 1834. They resided in Ontario. Also another Mills married into the Hamilton Family in NS. A Mills married my Rachel Clark and William Peter Jones in Ontario. I am from John Clark and his first wife Ruth Hamilton. Franz Joseph Timon married Anna Catherine Susanna Herman c1754.in Halifax or Lunenburg; their marriage is not in the Lunenburg records per Shankle. Would someone who has access to the Halifax marriages book for that period please see if their marriage is listed. Since their children were baptized in the Lunenburg Lutheran they Amy have been married in that church. Punch in his Halifax marriages does not mention a Lutheran church so they may have been married in another church. Also what were the spellings of his and her names in the record? bob gillis

Hi Folks: I'm attempting to obtain more information on my 3x gr. g'father, Lewis (or Louis) Debol (or Debolt), who was born c 1778 in Spain and died 18 April 1872 in Sherbrooke, NS. He was married 6 Sept 1823 in St. Paul's Anglican Church, Halifax to Elizabeth (??) DeGant (or perhaps DeCant), widow of Joseph (or James) DeGant, who died 30 Nov 1822 in Halifax (he was born in Portugal). Elizabeth was born c 1786 and died 8 Feb 1841, Halifax. In the 1838 Nova Scotia Census, Louis is living in Halifax, and in the household is Louis, 1 male above the age of 14 and 2 females above the age of 14 (one presumably being Elizabeth). The other female was most likely my 2x gr. g'mother, Elizabeth. In 1871, Lewis is living in the household of James Dixon, Sea Captain, in Sherbrooke, Guysborough County, along with his daughter Elizabeth Nickerson. Lewis and DeGant were both chair makers. Any information that could add to my knowledge of Lewis Debol would be greatly appreciated! Sandi Bellefeuille, Mississauga, ON

I know there was a William Harland that sailed from Hull, Yorkshire also in 1774 and went to Fort Cumberland on the Ship Albion. See http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canwgw/archives/ns/chigrecords.txt I've been interested in him because of my research on my SCOTT ancestors and a bible they are listed in. A William HARLAND as well as a John HARLAND are mentioned in it as well, but earlier than the Yorkshire migration.
