    3. Hi everyone, I just returned home from the Stone Reunion in St. Peter's, Cape Breton. It was a wonderful event. While there, I learned that the St.Peter's Morrison Reunion is this weekend, so I thought I would send this quick email out, incase there might be listers who are descended from this Morrison family.

    1. [NS-L] Farquharson & McPhail
    2. Tammy Vallee
    3. Hi all, I am working on the following family: Duncan McPhail (born abt 1836 in Nova Scotia) and Annie Farquharson were married on March 15, 1864 in River Dennis (Dennys). In the 1871 Canadian Census they have 4 children Alexander (abt 1865) end up in BC we believe. Margaret (abt 1866) & Jeanette (abt 1868) John (1871) ended up in Saskatchewan. There may be one more son. On the census Jeanette (born abt 1795 in Scotland) is listed with the family and is a widow. One of the family stories is one of the girls drowned when she was 12, the other died after having a child. The boys were split up because the parents died but it is possible the family came to Manitoba before the parents died. There are different trees on Ancestry but no sources are given with them. I have tried the historical BMD but could only find John's birth (giving us Annie's maiden name & marriage date/place). So I am looking for suggestion on what next steps I can take to find more information on Duncan & Annie's parents. The family seems to be in the River Dennys area of Inverness County. 1. [NS-L] Const. Derek Pineo (Fall River, N.S.) - RCMP Officer Dies

    3. Newspaper Story RCMP Officer Dies when Cruiser Collides with Moose on Saskatchewan Highway The Canadian Press (at 20:26 on July 20, 2012, EDT) Wilkie, Sask. - An RCMP officer was killed in western Saskatchewan on Friday when his police cruiser hit a moose. Mounties say Const. Derek Pineo, 38, was the only person in the vehicle and died at the scene near Wilkie, 135 kilometres west of Saskatoon. Police say that Pineo was responding to a call when the collision occurred. At the time, police said there was a mischief complaint and a call about a possible impaired driver. Sgt. Paul Dawson said crash investigators were still examining the circumstances. Pineo was based at the Wilkie RCMP detachment and joined the force in 2007. Pineo's uncle, Rupert Pineo, said his nephew grew up in Fall River, N.S., was married and had three children. "Derek was the kind of person that he wasn't really sure what he wanted do, but he did settle on being a Mountie and he passed the Mountie's test and he really liked his work," said the uncle, who was reached at his home in Shubenacadie, N.S. Pineo has family in Saskatchewan as well as in Nova Scotia, police said. Dawson said the death affects everyone in the RCMP. "I think every member has been in a situation like Derek was in early this morning, responding to calls on a rural area across the country, so it does hit home with members across the country," he said. "We're all part of the same family, so it's a definite loss for everybody." Public Safety Minister Vic Toews extended his condolences to Pineo's family, colleagues and friends in an official statement on Friday afternoon. "This is a very sad day for all Canadians. The death of a police officer in the line of duty reminds us of the devotion and sacrifice of those who serve each day to keep us safe," Toews said. Rupert Pineo said his nephew was a fun-loving person who enjoyed hunting deer and fishing. He said Derek's parents live in Fall River and were heading to Saskatchewan to deal with their son's death. "They'll be devastated. They were a pretty close-knit family." 2. Dan MacDonald
    3. Is anyone else having problems with the search function at novascotiagenealogy.com? Example 1: I started a search tonight just prior to supper and had about 540 results. I scanned through several pages before having to walk away from the computer. When I got back the system had timed-out (annoying feature) so I had to re-enter the search parameters. The second time, however, the system only returned 360 results even though I used the exact same parameters. Example 2: Using a search under one surname I discovered a marriage record. I then ran a new search under the second surname but the marriage record I originally found does not appear. In other words, SMITH m. DOE is found while searching under SMITH but not when searching under DOE. Thanks, Dan MacDonald

    1. [NS-L] Ann MacDonald Craigen - Vancouver BC
    2. Ann MacDonald Craigen supplied some MacDonald genealogy data for the book 'Rawdon and Douglas:two Nova Scotia Towns by V. Duncanson. She listed her home as Vancouver, BC. In it she refers to the genealogy of the family of 'Iain MacEoghain Oig (John McDonald) plus the lines to 4 sons and 4 daughters, all who originally settled in Pictou County, NS in 1784. (pages 331 - 343) That my GGGG-GF, John MacDonald was a "Glencoe MacDonald" was called into dispute by Dr William Matheson, head of the Gaelic Dept at the Univ of Edinburgh in a 1970 letter written to Ann MacDonald Craigen of Vancouver BC and agreed with by Margaret (Maggie) MacDonald, Clan Donald Archivist at Armadale in a letter she sent me a few years ago. My own DNA does not match with that of any Glencoe MacDonald On my visit to Skye in 2006, they had some some personal correspondence letters from Ann Craigen to another person in which Ann Craigen was herself doubting the validity of the Glencoe descent she put into Duncanson's book I would be interested to hear from anyone associated with her genealogy research. I am especially interested in her personal research notes Ben MacDonald Sun City AZ

    3. If you do not get a look up directly, I used to live in BC and did lots of research at one of the South Surrey branches, I think it was Cloverdale. Try contacting them and see if they will look it up for you. http://www.surreylibraries.ca/location-hours/4684.aspx Besides that, Mountain cemetery is in the main part of Vancouver (maybe east ..). If you contact M. Cem they may have more info for you in their record files, like location of the grave. 3. Thanks so much Carol, someone in Vancouver has already offered to help me. Yes I do have the info from Mountain View Cemetery, and know where she is buried etc., but no newspaper obits. Yes, Cloverdale is a wonderful resource library, but unfortunately due to my husband's health I can't make my annual trip up that way this year to further the research. Please note that on some cemeteries we have included the "record holders" contact information for the township, town or city cemetery. * 3. Missing cemeteries. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means we have not photographed the cemeteries in that area. Would you or some of your family or friends be interested in helping out by photographing your local cemeteries.? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors to the website.
