Looking for the burial place in New York for Smith Robert Harding. He was born ca.1800 and lived in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Between 1829-1834 he went to New York, the last known date was a letter dated Sept 1834 in Utica, NY. He died in 1835, prob. In NY. 4 of his children were baptized at Trinity Anglican in Tusket, NS. 5 Sept 1834, but the 5th and last child, William H. Harding, was born 9 June 1835 in NY. His wife was Elizabeth 'Mary' VanBeuren, believed to be the one b. 1803 Kinderhook. She may have had a relative named Phebe 'Jane' VanBeuren. Anecdotally, descendants of William H. found his grave in New York in the past, but the information has been lost. Extensive research yields me no result. His death occurred before formal records were kept in NY State. Thank you, Carol Harding
Morning George. There are some records related to the birth of a male child (Jean Jacques Mervan) born to "Trangil Mervin" and Judith McDonald in 12 January 1903 in Sutton, Massachusetts. Other records associated with the name, at least, for baptism en L'Ardoise, Antigonish Parish for children born to Tranquille and Genevieve Pate in the 1880s. These children were Dominique, Elie and Susanne Agnes Morvan (various spellings). I would suggest to you that if this is the same Tranquille Morven, Elizabeth McPherson was likely a third wife. Jean J. Morvan was listed in the 1940 census as living in Roxbury, Massachusetts. Inez ________________________________ From: George F. She was born about 1864. I do not find the happy couple in the 1911 census, and there seems to be no death record for either of them in Nova Scotia. Casting a big net, I do not find them anywhere in Canada in 1911, or anywhere in the United States in 1910 or thereafter. The question is, what became of these two? I doubt they had any children, at their age, "but you never know." Also, I don't know who Tranquil's first wife was (can find no marriage record), or whether they had any children. Is there an alternate name for Tranquil that he might have been using? Any suggestions appreciated. Tranquil is a new name to me. It's certainly possible that he could have served in the Crimea, although at age 14-17, he was more likely a powder boy - running muntions to soldiers - or a drummer. Very often the service of these boys went unrecorded, but you might try: http://cwrs.russianwar.co.uk/cwrsentry.html Perhaps someone there can find a mention of him. John was my Great Grandfather. He stated on his marriage certificate that he was born in Spalding Lincolnshire England. We have never been able to prove this. Somewhere I recall reading that he might have served in the Crimean War. We have always wondered if he came to Canada while in the military. Is anyone else researching this gentleman?? Does anyone have access to records from the Crimean War that might prove or disprove his service? If he did come to NS because of the military would there be any record available? My father had two siblings who were born and died in Bridgewater, NS William - born and died in 1908 Mary Elizabeth - died 22 Mar 1912, aged 6 mos. I found the death record for Mary Elizabeth, but no luck for her birth or any record of William. At one time there was a marker in Brookside cemetery which has since disappeared. Would there be newspapers available which might have recorded these events? Their father was P. Clinton Reed who was the Baptist minister in Bridgewater at the time. -- David Reed (dreed@ca.inter.net) Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Hi All: Marion Jardine and I have produced an index to the burials contained in the various cemetery listings on the Pictou County GENWEB site. Hi Marilyn, You might also want to try your post on Rootweb's list on the Great War: GREATWAR@rootsweb.com. If I may also suggest, that list's subject involves several countries records so you would be wise to make sure you man's ethic origin is spelled out, as well as when he joined the "British air corps" (which may or may not be the correct name.) Unfortunately my father, a 22-year veteran of the Royal Air Force, is ill in hospital, and I cannot talk to him about this, but I believe this medal refers to the June 1917 offensive at Messines, France, when the Royal Flying Corps began strafing German trenches for the first time at low-level, exposing the pilots to dangerous ground fire. Hi Everyone, I am trying to find out what became of one of my relatives. Ernest Murphy was born in P.E.I. in October 1905, and I was told that he was last known to be somewhere in Nova Scotia working for the A & P food chain. There is no marriage or death for him in the latest version of the Historical Vital Statistics from the Archives. Does anyone remember an Ernest Murphy in Nova Scotia anywhere who fits this description? Thanks, George Sanborn Charlottetown PE
