    3. You can use http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1901/index-e.html {Not indexed by name} and Automatedgenealogy to find the district name IE: Province: Nova Scotia District Name : Cape Breton Sub-District Number: M 2 (no dash) Schedule Number: 2 Plug those into the search page at collectionscanada.gc.ca and you will get a pdf for schedule 2, which doesn't contain much, by the way. To see the full page you have to scroll down using the full screen vertical well as the pdf vertical scroll. As I remember looking at Schedule 2 for Lunenburg and Queens Counties, the Schedule 2 showed the date of enumeration, this does: 20 Apr ;details of the property like W 1-1/2/4, Wood, 1-1/2 story 4 room.plus if there was a barn etc; this just shows W. I found th log in page but when I tried to log in I am told that my user name or password has expired; and then I find: The board is now closed to new memberships. 308211 is enough. How many of the 308211 have expired? I think many if not most of them. I suggested years ago to them that they have a location sort which they adopted. I have another suggestion: A check box to check all variations of the Surname Soundex. For instance in 1901 Gillis has about 20 variations. If I could select all I could quickly scan and find my person with the given name and location without having to check every variation. I gather Lindsey Patten is the person. I do not find him on Canada411.ca but with the propensity of people to have their .telephone name as L. Patten and not knowing his province he is almost impossible to locate. bob gillis

    3. Hello Listers, Many thanks indeed to all who sent me so much information yesterday in response to my query aboutTranquil Morvan and his family. I now know much more about him and his parents, earlier marriages, and children. I'm still trying to find out what became of him and his third (?) wife, Elizabeth "Betsey" MacPherson, who married in Halifax in 1910. I think I might have found them at last on the 1911 census in Halifax, listed as Frank and Bessie Mervin (hard to read, but I think that's what it says). Still no death records, and they don't seem to show up in any later U.S. census records. Anyway, thanks again to so many who sent very detailed information, images of records, and so on. Greatly appreciated! George in P.E.I.

Tracing female ancestors. Cemeteries online have spousal duplicated photographs. This means a photo of a stone which also has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches using the onboard search engine, for a surname, the spouse's surname will be reported as a separate "search result". * 2. Cemetery records. Over the past 13 years this website has been instrumental in breaking down many researchers' brick walls. In addition, many folks have travelled to cemeteries which are onboard, to "walk" the cemeteries. Please note that on some cemeteries we have included the "record holders" contact information for the township, town or city cemetery. * 3. Missing cemeteries. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means we have not photographed the cemeteries in that area. Would you or some of your family or friends be interested in helping out by photographing your local cemeteries.? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors to the website. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the *Canadian Gravemarker Gallery* please do not hesitate to send your comments, concerns or suggestions to us at: info@gravemarkers.ca * * ********************************************* * Best Regards....Murray P l e t s c h * Cdn Gravemarker Gallery - http://www.gravemarkers.ca * *********************************************

    1. Re: [NS-L] Tranquil Morvan
    2. Jared Handspicker
    3. George, Hope some of this proves useful: >From LDS website (familysearch.org) Found birth record for Basile Tranquille Morvan 01-Jan-1856, L'Ardoise, Richmond Co, NS, s/o Maurice Morvan and Susanne Martel, he was bapt/chr. there on 24-Jan-1856. He married Genevieve "Jane" Pate on 14-Jan-1881, at Holy Guardian Angels, L'Ardoise, Richmond Co, NS. (Parents were Maurice and Susan on this one) Genevieve and Tranquil had: Albert Walter Morvan, b. 19-Jul-1885, L'Ardoise, bapt. 20-Jul-1885, Holy Guardian Angels Elie Morvan, b. 18-Mar-1883, Bapt. 18-Mar-1883, Holy Guardian Angels Susanne Agnes Morvan, b. 15-Dec-1881, bapt. 19-Dec-1881, ditto Dominique Morvan, b. 02-Oct-1887, bapt. 03-Oct-1887, ditto 1891, L'Ardoise, "Tranquille Marvan", aged 34, Jane 32, Agnes 9, Elias, 8, William 6, and Domenic, 3. Now we follow the RIGHT one, methinks.... Tranquil married a Judith W. McDonald, perhaps in NS, maybe in MA? between 1891 and 1900, THEY had: 1) Thomas 07-Jul-1900, Sutton, MA, d. 16-Jul-1905, Sutton (Mauchaug/Manchaug) (on his birth record, Tranquil listed POB as "Cape Britton" and Judith's POB as ?Discourse?, NS. Thomas buried in St. Dennis Cemetery, East Douglas, MA, on 17-Ju-1905. 2) Phillipe, b. 14-Jul-1901, Sutton, MA. 3) Tranguel (note the "g" vs. "g") and Jean Jacques stillborn twins, b. 12-Jan-1903, Sutton, MA, d. 12-Jan-1903, in Sutton, MA. Tranquil listed his POB, again, as Cape Breton. Now, THIS is interesting, a death record for a THOMAS Marvan, at Manchaug, Sutton, MA, on 10-May-1907, but he was 34, b. NS, s/o Maurice Marvan and Susan "Martin". The informant was his wife (not named!!!). This would not appear to have been Tranquil, if only 34 in 1907 (b. @1873), but surely was a younger brother of his?!?!?!? In 1910, looks like Tranquil was in Willimantic, CT, residing 32 Stone Row, also on Stone Row, at #27, was a Walter Morvan (Albert Walter, his son by Genevieve b. 1885), but no sign of Judith, and not in the 1910 US Census for CT that I could find. Now, Tranquil was not only L'Ardoise Morvan to end up in Sutton. There was also a Pascal/Paschal Morvan who settled there... b. @1874, m. to Leda Boudreau/Beaudreau. And, a Pierre Morvan m. to Marie Latane or Labanc? All were in the Mauchaug or Manchaug village area. Manchaug is a pond in Sutton, MA. Morvan, Marvan, Mervan in terms of popular spelling usage order. 1900 US Census for Sutton, Worcester Co, MA: "Treaquil Morvan" b. Dec-1855, Canada, immigrated in 1897, wife Judith (Judith W. McDonald). They were married in 1898, Judith b. Nov-1861, Canada, immigrated 1896. Indicating they likely married in MA. Also in same house was Walter Morvan, b. Jun-1884, Canada, son of "Treaquil". But not any of the other children. No Judith in 1910 census, none of the kids, either. Looks likes Tranquil, Walter, and a Dominique Morvan were all in Willimantic, CT by 1906, all employees of W. C. M. Corp. Tranquil had house at 942 Main, and both Dominique and Walter boarded with him (sons). By 1907, all three resided at 32 Stone Row, with Tranquil as main resident and Walter and Dominique, again, listed as boarders. Elie also joined them but lived in different house. Did trace Elias/Elie/Eli to Maine, married to Louise and died there 28-Jun-1971 at Gardiner, Kennebec Co, ME. And, herein lies an interesting "rub". In the 1930 US Census for Eli and Louise (b. @1890, Canada) are listed two "parents" of Elias. His mother (step-mother anyway), Mary, b. @1851, Canada, immigrated 1916, and her husband, Frank "Marvin" b. @1855, Canada. Trank? maybe? "Frank" was first married at age 20, while Mary was first married at age 24. Given their age difference, one would presume they married each other in 1885. I'd say on the surface this is not a match, but when considering this is in Gardiner, ME in 1930, and Eli's death record shows his birthdate as 18-Mar-1883, there is no doubt in my mind this IS Eli, s/o Tranquil, who, perhaps, was using "Frank Marvin" as an Americanized name? Likely a son of Albert Walter's was George Morvan, b. 18-Aug-1919, d. May-1987, Kennebec Co, ME. Unless he was Elias' son, Simon or Albert by a middle name?!!?!?! Susanne Martel, born on 30 Oct 1827, L'Ardoise, NS; married Maurice Morvan, on 22 Jan 1855, L'Ardoise, NS; died on 24 Aug 1875, L'Ardoise, NS. Not sure if same family, but an Albert W. Morvan m. Josephine Dennis, Augusta, ME on 10-Oct-1942. Surely Albert W. Morvan b. 1886 Canada, was in Augusta in 1940 census, m. to Etta W. b. 1889, ME. According to the Martell family history, Maurice Morvan (1826-1910) m. Susanne Martell (1827-1875). Their son, Tranquille, b. 01-Jan-1856, m. Genevieve Perpetue "Jeanne" Pate, b. 1858, on 14-Jan-1881. They had: 1) Suzanne Agnes b. 1881 2) Elizabeth b. 1883 3) Albert Walter b. 1885 4) Dominique b. 02-Oct-1887 All births/marriages in L'Ardoise, but no death dates, no 2nd marriage to Judith or third marriage to your Elizabeth. Others of same name: There is an earlier man of same name, b. 12-Dec-1830, bapt. same church, parents Jean Morvan and Martine Mambourquet. Suspect related, but not sure how. He died 20-Jan-1848, aged 17, buried at Holy Guardian Angels. MAYBE related??? was a John T. Morven b. 1904, Canada, who by 1930/40 is also in Gardiner, ME. Well, that's about all I'm good for this morning. Hope some of this sheds some light on your "Tranquil". Jared > Morning all, > > A man named Tranquil Morvan, born at Lardoise about 1860, son of Maurice > and Susan (_____) Morvan, married, for his second wife, in Halifax on 24 > January 1910, one of my relatives, Elizabeth "Betsey" MacPherson from > Pictou County, but then of Halifax. 1. [NS-L] Tranquil Morvan
    2. George F. Sanborn Jr.
    3. Morning all, A man named Tranquil Morvan, born at Lardoise about 1860, son of Maurice and Susan (_____) Morvan, married, for his second wife, in Halifax on 24 January 1910, one of my relatives, Elizabeth "Betsey" MacPherson from Pictou County, but then of Halifax. She was born about 1864. I do not find the happy couple in the 1911 census, and there seems to be no death record for either of them in Nova Scotia. Casting a big net, I do not find them anywhere in Canada in 1911, or anywhere in the United States in 1910 or thereafter. The question is, what became of these two? I doubt they had any children, at their age, "but you never know." Also, I don't know who Tranquil's first wife was (can find no marriage record), or whether they had any children. Is there an alternate name for Tranquil that he might have been using? Any suggestions appreciated. Tranquil is a new name to me. George in P.E.I.
