To all:- I am familiar with the LANGILL name -- often spelled as Langille, but do not let that make you believe it is a different family. I have checked the membership list -- and already recognize some of the e-mail addresses -- also hope more will be added. This list will be for sharing of family information, hoping to learn more about ancestors PLUS history of the time period, as it relates to the LANGILL families. Some topics:- Origin; Occupations; plus other interesting bits that round out a family history. Hoping to see this become a busy list -- I knew many in Queens County. Also, there are many families in Guysborough County who moved there from "I wish I knew" -- likely Lunenburg County. Muriel - list admin
Hi Judy, At the definition level an Affidavit is a sworn statement where a Marriage Certificate is a legal proof of a marriage contract. Depending on the exact context, it could be that the Affidavit Form was a sworn statement that a marriage existed and so a contract should be deemed to exist. I do notice, however, in my dictionary, that one definition is "affidavit to give surety" and since it was the custom in Nova Scotia for a bond to be posted as compensation if a promised marriage did not take place. In the context of a "vital" record however I would have thought the first option most likely as the marriage bond was simply a legal agreement and had nothing material to do with the marriage itself. To be televised on CBC May 24/25 (Thu/Fri), 2007. Check for local times. The other doc. about this that CBC has aired before is "A City of Ruins." Both worth seeing. Bill
Hi All: I just came across the marriage of someone who was living in Port Medway at the age 3, but says he was born in Denmark. I don't think this is Denmark as in the home of Hamlet, and I suspect it isn't the Denmark that is in Colchester County. What I do suspect is that here, Denmark is an older name for somewhere in Queens, or perhaps Lunenburg County. Yes/No/Maybe? -----Bob H-----
"A Map of the Province of Nova Scotia, Canada," Fourth Revised Edition, lists a "Denmark" as a town in Colchester County, south of Amet Sound off the Northumberland Strait. Looking for info on Wright Family-Nicholas and Elizabeth-with possible children-Nick and Bridget-his wife, James, Nancy, Elizabeth (Betsey) Toole, and Rachel Martin. Elder Nicholas was a member of Christ Church (Angelican) in Guysborough in 1804-purchased land in 1809, in Gut of Canso. Was shot by Walter Lee in Gut in 1812. Widow Wright was in Gut of Canso with 10 in her household in 1817 . Land was sold in 1826 by above named children. Any info would be useful to solve my 29 year brick wall. I am trying to find out if and when Mary SCOTT was born in Amherst about 1760. She married Thomas BERRY 23 Aug 1781. She may have been born elsewhere, but at least if I can find ANY Scotts born in Cumberland County in the late 1700s I would have some clues to go on. Where would I look for births, deaths and marriages for Cumberland County in that time period? Thanks, Virginia (Ward) Bergmann _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Hotmail gives you the control you need to help you keep your e-mail private, safe and secure. Looking for an article about an accident which occurred around 17 May 1910 in which a "Jason Freeman" was killed, he was from Stewiacke, NS. The Truro archives shows a reference (Ref: 18/05/1910 line 4810). He does not show on the NS Archives deaths (born 8 Aug. 1889). Any help would be appreciated.
