    1. [NS-L] Request for Valley information
    2. Sue Burns
    3. Hi all, If anyone on the list is currently looking through valley papers, could they possibly keep an eye out for a reported death by drowning of a child (surname possibly Dunn). This was a twin, and I do not know if the child was male or female. I am thinking it would have occurred near Greenwood, but am not sure. Possible date would be past 1963 but before 1975. (I know...it's a real loo-oong shot!) Thanks! SueB

    2. Hi Sue, We moved to Greeenwood in 1970 (PMQ'S) and I left home in 1975. I don't remember that happening during that time frame. I hope that helps in some way. 3. Thank you for all the responses on this. It has definitely given me something to work with. "REALLY LONGSHOT question. For Jennie, was her mother's name Mary? Did she have another sister, Eliza, and a brother, Peter? If so, they are also living in Gloucester in 1900. All having "arrived" in 1883 (close enough proximity to question possible connection). Mary is widowed in 1900, though. She was b. @1850, Canada, daughter Eliza, b. @1880, Canada, and son, Peter, b. @1885, Massachusetts." There is no one left in the family that I can ask any questions of, at least to the best of my knowledge. I am hoping to connect with another line of this family to possibly find out more, thus the inquiry of the obit. My late father-in-law spoke very little of his family. I have spent hours in the library in Gloucester to find what I have so far along with just joining the NEHGS. It has been 20+ yrs of searching. I am originally from Gloucester but now living in VT all I have is the computer until I can get back to Gloucester. I know that have done a lot of work on old records there and have formed an archives committee of volunteers that devote their time to organizing the old records that were found in the city hall there. Thanks again for everyone who has responded Marie (Garland) Frazier

    3. Marie, This is the closest possibility I can find, from the Herald newspaper CD: 12-21-65 Hamilton, Mrs. William Bear River This means an obituary was published in the paper on 21 Dec 1965. I did not find any listings for a Jennie Hamilton, other than one in 1996 but with the wrong family. 1. Re: [NS-L] "Shattered City" (Halifax Explosion)
    2. ...Just beware that some of the history is not accurate, not the least of which is the oft-repeated fallacy that an American train arrived in the city with the first medical aid...I think I ranted about this in an earlier post. Also: the show indicates there were German saboteurs at work who might have played a part in the disasater. This was never proven. Also: One character explains the German character's ethnicity by saying "He's Dutch, they are on our side." The Dutch were neutral in the First World War, and no fighting took place in the Netherlands. It was to The Netherlands (Doorn) that Kaiser Wilhelm fled for sanctuary when the revoltion broke out in Germany after the war. If you Google "Shattered City" and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic Curator Dan Conlin's name you may still find his excellent critique of all that was erroneous about the CBC's production.
