Summer is the time for genealogy events and reunions. To keep up to date with what’s going on around in the Atlantic Provinces, I have created Atlantic Canada’s Genealogy Calendar. There, I will post genealogy-related events, society meetings and family reunions taking place throughout the year. Events must take place in one of the four Atlantic Provinces with one exception. If a family reunion is taking place elsewhere, but would be of interest to those living in Atlantic Canada, I will post it. Please, submit events, meetings and reunions off list to Diana Lynn Tibert: tibert@ns.sympatico.ca Include the date and place the event is taking place. Web addresses for additional information and contact information can be included, but is not necessary. Provide a short description of the event. To view current events, visit the web page: http://www.thefamilyattic.info/RCalendar.html Thanks, Diana Lynn Tibert The Family Attic, home to: Roots to the Past genealogy column (updated: May 17, 2007): http://www.thefamilyattic.info/Roots.html
It's funny, isn't it, how many people will claim that technology today has made us less "personal" in our interrelationships, yet as someone who began his newspaper career writing obituaries for the Charlotttown Guardian-Patriot more than 20 years ago, I've noticed how much more personal information is included in obituaries these days. Back in the 50s there was barely much more than a death notice, and sometime scant information beond a name of the decased, date of death and burial. Now someone's life story can be encapsulated in a few paragraphs, giving folks in the future a much better idea of the character of the deceased. That's thanks to an internet that allows transmission of prepared copy rather than back in my day, when it had to be taken over the phone, tyoed up, typset, proofread, etc.....damned technology woulda put me out of a job! Hello Fred, I don't have those answers. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp In the 1881 Canadian Census, there are four William Stewarts in Nova Scotia Born about 1860 +/- 2 years, and in the 1880 USA Censusm there are four Williams Stewarts in Michigan born about 1860 +/- 2 years. Perhaps that may help narrow down the serach. If you could figure out what County in Nova Scotia, we could check the 1871 census results.
