    3. Hi Katherine, Here is the announcement printed on June 15: MacDONALD, Elizabeth Jeannette MacDONALD, Elizabeth Jeannette - Windsor, died peacefully in Zurich, Switzerland, on Friday, June 8, 2007, after a long struggle with aggressive Multiple Sclerosis. There will be a service of remembrance at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, in Middleton Funeral Home, Middleton, and visitation in Middleton Funeral Home, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 22. Her obituary will follow in this newspaper on Wednesday, June 20. And on the 20th: MacDONALD (Lawrence), Elizabeth Jeanette MacDONALD (Lawrence), Elizabeth Jeanette - 38, Windsor, died peacefully, on June 8, 2007, lying in the arms of her best friend, her husband of nearly 18 years. She is survived by a loving family and many friends who sustained her through the years she suffered a very aggressive form of multiple sclerosis. She fell in love at 15, and married at 21, the one love of her life, Eric MacDonald, whose ministry as an Anglican priest she supported capably for many years. Their tombstone reads: "Certainty like this comes but once in a lifetime", certainty her husband shares, his life enriched and ennobled by her love. She is survived by her husband, Eric, who continues to live in the home they built together near Windsor; son, Alex, Halifax, and daughter, Kirsten (Kelly), Halifax; her loving parents, Bill and Cora Lawrence, Falmouth; brothers, Victor (Theresa), New Glasgow; Marshall, Waterloo; Mark (Wendy), Waterloo; "little" sister, Christina (Blair) Baker, Falmouth; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Peter MacDonald, and was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Edna, both of whom played an important part in her life. Elizabeth made important contributions to the life of the church in Mulgrave and Middleton by her good humour, openness, humanity, and skill at organization. In Middleton she started home-based Pennypig Printing & Design which filled an important niche for nine years in the business life of the community. She was forced to sell this innovative digital business because of increasing disability. She provided a foundation of love and support which helped her husband achieve success in his vocation which would otherwise have eluded him. She laid the foundations of her daughter Kirsten's independence and drive, and contributed significantly to her growing success as a scholar and strength as a woman. Though her children's stepmother, both Kirsten and her son Alex have done her the honour of allowing her to call them her children, a tribute to her love and devotion. Elizabeth bore her disease, not without anger for lost years and opportunities, with courage, grace and surprising good humour. She met her death in the same spirit. The suffering and the humiliation of pain and disability were great, yet she did not pity herself, facing the realities of her life forthrightly and with integrity. She treasured a poem by namesake D.H. Lawrence, "Self Pity": "I never saw a wild thing/sorry for itself./A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough/without ever having felt sorry for itself". The family would especially like to thank, on Elizabeth's behalf, her neurologist, Virender Bhan, her GP, Jane Brooks, for their care and concern of many years, especially, in Dr. Brooks' case, during Elizabeth's expressions of frustration and anger as medical options dwindled to palliative measures. We would also like to thank the West Hants VON, with special thanks to "Dr. Chrissy" for her friendship, whose aid enabled her to stay at home for the last year. Last, but not least, we would like to thank Herr Ludwig Minelli, and the members of Dignitas in Zurich (Bernard and "Gaby", in particular), for helping Elizabeth deliver herself from the burden of a life which had become too great to bear. Visitation in Middleton Funeral Home will be June 22, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. We will celebrate Elizabeth's life in a non-religious service of remembrance at the funeral home, led by Mr. Peter Miller, on Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m., followed immediately by burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Please bring earth from your garden or special place to sprinkle into the grave. No flowers or condolences by request. Join us on Saturday, and/or make a donation to: The Multiple Sclerosis Society, Atlantic Division, 71 Ilsley Ave., Unit 12, Dartmouth, NS B3B 1L5; Hants Community Hospital Palliative Care Program (VON), c/o Bev Lyttle, 89 Pazant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0; or The Right to Die Society of Canada, 145 Macdonell Ave., Toronto, ON M6R 2A4. I hope this is helpful. 3. Hi Bill: There are two parts to the Herald Obits CD. Part I, which covers 1961 mid-1992, has only the name, place, and date of publication of obits. Part II, which covers the rest of 1992 through end 1999, has full obits plus a sprinkling of wedding and birth announcements. PS. 3. After Googling, here's the cached copy from Chronicle-Herald files: By IAN FAIRCLOUGH Valley Bureau | 5:36 PM RCMP say they have opened a file in the assisted suicide of a Windsor woman who died at a clinic in Switzerland. Elizabeth MacDonald died June 8 in husband Eric's arms after taking barbiturates at the Dignitas clinic. She suffered from an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis that left her in a wheelchair and had begun to paralyze her throat. AND A FOLLOW-UP from 29 June 2007: Probe sought into assisted death Group concerned Valley woman chose to die in Switzerland By LAURA FRASER | 6:34 PM ADVERTISEMENT An anti-euthanasia group has called on police to investigate the death of a Windsor-area woman. Elizabeth MacDonald died in Switzerland in June with the help of staff at Dignitas, a clinic that gives people the means to take their own lives, her husband told a Halifax newspaper. Ms. MacDonald suffered from an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, according to her obituary. Swiss physicians can legally assist suicide as long as they do so for unselfish reasons. But the executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition said he wants to know whether any Canadian laws might have been broken. Alex Schadenberg questioned whether the person who travelled with Ms. MacDonald could be charged with assisting suicide. "When a (medical) condition is advanced it’s very likely (for someone) to need help in this act and our Criminal Code says that it wrong," he said. A companion would probably only be held criminally responsible if their actions were directly linked to the suicide itself, said Halifax lawyer Duncan Beveridge. "Travelling with somebody to Switzerland . . . may have the effect of aiding, but the question is, are they doing it for the purpose of (helping) that person commit suicide?" Mr. Beveridge said a doctor connecting a patient to "a suicide machine" and instructing them how to use it would constitute aiding or abetting, whereas acting as a travel companion to a person wishing to end his or her life would not likely qualify. Meanwhile, Mr. Schadenberg also questioned the role that the Right to Die Society of Canada played in Ms. MacDonald’s decision and whether any action should be taken against the group if it provided her with information. Again, Mr. Beveridge said he didn’t think any charges could be laid. Counselling means that a person would have to urge or encourage someone to pursue assisted suicide, he said. "Not by the longest stretch of anyone’s imagination can providing information be considered counselling." The president of the Right to Die Society agrees. "It’s pretty well-established that to provide information is not criminal," Ruth von Fuchs said. "I tend to think that, on the whole, information is pretty useful stuff and that the truth is better than myths. . . . We are well aware of what the law forbids and we do not do it." Although she doesn’t believe Ms. MacDonald was a member of the society, Ms. von Fuchs said it’s possible that they spoke on the phone. "For some people, with certain diseases, it’s very natural to fear the future," Ms. von Fuchs said. "There’s a widespread assumption that there is a duty to live . . . but life is not an obligation." 1. [NS-L] Obits.
    2. Katherine Dubin
    3. Hello: Does anyone know how I can find an obit for Elizabeth MacDonald who died June 8, 2007 in the Windsor area? I tried checking the Halifax Herald and you can only go back one week. Is there anywhere, on-line, that I can look up recent, past obits? Or, is anyone saving them to a site on rootsweb anywhere? If so, could you please e-mail me the address? I would appreciate any help I can get on this. Thank you, Kathy.

Hello David, Are you researching this family? I am interested in learning the names of John Dunn's children. I believe that Anne Nancy (Nancy) Dunn, who married Benjamin Dykens, on March 7, 1816, Christ Church Anglican CCR, Windsor, was the daughter of John Dunn or Dun of Annapolis. Any help would be great. My best, Kathleen The book lists one Dunn family, p. 110. DUNN, JOHN ....................................................... ANNAPOLIS, 1765. 4 males, 3 females, 1768. I feel that their answer was not quite what I was looking for, so if it's alright with you, would like to ask you again offlist, so as to not hurt anybody's feelings. Here was my question: Does your book have anything on Henry and Mary (Ellenwood) COGGIN of Yarmouth?
