For two years he was attached to the R.A.F. in England, and made 17 bombing flights over Berlin, Stettin and other enemy targets. The anti-aircraft defences of the island, only sixty miles from the menacing bases at Sicily, are the best in the world, the flight sergeant said. During his service in Malta he engaged in 28 operational bombing flights over Italy, North Africa and Greece attacking land targets and enemy convoys over the Mediterranean. I am trying to connect Bridget E Timmons or Simmons to George Riley and also to George Brown. The 1881 census for Kings Co shows Bridget E Riley 29 b Ireland a widow with 3 children George C either 5 or 3 yrs ; Philip H 2 and Samuel W which I believe s/b Simon W 5/12 (Nov). I have found a marriage on 13 Apr 1875 for Bridget Simmons ( parents Phillip and Catherine ) to George Riley ( parents Simon & Sarah ) I have found in the 1900 US Census for Weymouth Mass: George Brown , Head b Feb 1853 Canada age 47 married 12 yrs immigrated 1889 laborer @ Chemical Works Bridget, Wife b Dec 1851 Ireland age 48 married 12 yrs immigrated 1889 Philip H Riley, stepson b Jan 1879 Canada age 21 immigrated 1889 laborer chemical works Simon W Riley, stepson b Dec 1880 Canada age 19 immigrated 1889 day laborer Number of years for all 4 in the US - 11 Bridget Brown was residing with her son Philip Riley in 1910 US Census for Weymouth and was shown as a widow. Bridget Brown's Death Certificate reads: Bridget Timmons Brown d 3 July 1921 b Ireland Widow of George Brown Father Philip Timmons Questions: Does anyone have a death date for George Riley husband of Bridget Timmons? (Would be prior to the 1881 census for Kings Co.) Where is he buried? Does anyone have a marriage date for George Brown and Bridget (Timmons) Riley? (Sometime between 1881 and 1888 probably in Kings Co.) Who is George Brown's parents or siblings? Was Bridget Timmons parents residing in KIngs Co ?? If anyone can add anything to any of these families it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Digby Weekly Courier - Friday, 18 September 1931 - Page 1 - George R. Pineo - George R. Pineo of Digby, widely known throughout Nova Scotia, passed peacefully to rest at his home on Monday afternoon. The deceased who had been in poor health for several years, was born at Canard, 73 years ago. He is survived by three sons, Charles, Assistant General Manager of the Royal Bank of Canada, Montreal; Hollis, of Spokane, Washington; and St. Clair at home. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon. Note: His death in the vitals is under George Richard Pines, and the informant is Richard St. Clair Pineo. Go to: http://www.prospectvillage.ca There are a few researching POWER, and a couple researching COOLEN and couple more researching WHITE lines in Prospect. The POWER name likely goes back to Peter, Maurice, and Roger POOR. COOLEN appears to have originated as COOLING, with James. (prob. also seen as "Cowling") COULD also be that the WHITE line goes back to Sam (Samuel?) http://www.prospectvillage.ca/historicalDocuments/birthRecords.html (some birth records) http://www.prospectvillage.ca/historicalDocuments/deathRecords.html (may find some here) In the school records for 1836, is listed as Rebeah Duggan, aged 12, d/o Pater (Peter?) Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Thursday, 29 Oct 1942 MURRAY- FILLMORE Sharon St.-John United Church, Stellarton, was the scene yesterday of a very pretty wedding when Pilot Officer Bruce Murray, R.C.A.F., son of Col. and Mrs. Robert A. Murray, New Glasgow, was united in marriage to Doris Fillmore, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Fillmore of Stellarton, with Rev. T.E. MacLennan performing the ceremony. The church was very prettily decorated with white mums and ferns with the guest pews marked by tiny mums tied with ribbons of Air Force blue and white. Mr. Langston Miller presided at the organ and besides the Wedding Marches played very softly and sweetly before and during the service. Promptly at 2:30 the bride, a very attractive girl, entered the church on the arm of her father. She was radiant in a lovely gown of white satin made on long becoming lines with rows of cording. Following the long lines of the dress her veil fell in folds to the hem from a halo of orange blossoms. She wore long white kid gloves and white slippers and carried a very pretty shower bouquet of white mums and orchids. She was attended by Miss Thelma MacKinnon becomingly gowned in peach velvet made on the same long becoming lines of the bride's dress. She wore a peach velvet halo with white kid gloves and gold slippers and carried a bouquet of lavender mums. The groom was attended by P.O. Fred Fallis of Toronto and the ushers were Frank Fillmore, brother of the bride and Colin Cantley also of the R.C.A.F. During the signing of the register Mrs. E. Stewart MacDonald sang very beautifully,"O Perfect Love." Followingthe ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, where the newly married pair were assisted in receiving by the bride's mother, wearing a beautiful gown of soldier blue with silver sequin trimming, navy blue hat and accessories and corsage of red roses tied with silver ribbons and the groom's mother wearing a most becoming dress of gold cloth with trimmings sequins, a black hat with ostrich plumes and black accessories and a corsage of red roses tied with gold ribbons. Following the reception refreshments were served from a table beautifully decorated and presided over by Mrs. Murray, New Glasgow, aunt of the groom and Mrs. R.W. Field, aunt of the bride, assisted by Mrs. Raymond Stancombe, Misses Edna Grant, Jean Chisholm, Jean MacKinnon, Naomi MacDonald and Vivian Connors. Following the reception P.O. Murray and his wife left on a short trip to the Valley, the bride wearing a turquoise blue bunny wool dress, with top coat of chocolate brown with a smart brown hat and accessories to match and corsage of roses, On their return they will be in Stellarton for a short time before going to Summerside where the groom is a Piolet Officer in the R.C.A.F. The bride's gift to the groom was a Ronson lighter, the groom's gift to the bride was an evening wrap, to the best man a cigarette lighter, to the ushers, cigarette cases, to the bridesmaid, earrings and to the soloist, pearl necklace. The very many lovely gifts were testimony to the large circle of friends possessed by these popular young people and the good wishes of these many friends for a happy life will follow them to their new home. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thought you Listers might like to read a long one for a change. Since this is about receiving "Mass cards", could these initials simply reflect a location? If no location is listed for the others, perhaps it was because they were "local". If it IS a location, and within NS, then perhaps something like "New Tusket". Or, if from outside of NS, perhaps "Northwest Territories"??? It's less likely what I had thought before opening the e-mail.... "New Testament". :-) Enjoy solving this little mystery! Many thanks to those who so quickly responded, and especially to Ginny and Deborah who I believe, have the correct answer. Both suggested "National Teacher", which is apparently in common use in Ireland. I do know one of the people listed was a teacher, so I believe this to be correct. Many thanks again!

Has anyone encountered the abbreviations "N.T." as a title and/or have thoughts on its meaning? I have an obituary from 1937 printed in an Irish newspaper that mentions this title in the following context: "Mass cards were received from.....Miss Jane Doe, N.T.; Miss Mary Smith, N.T.; Mr. John Brown, N.T." None of the names preceeding these names have titles. I do not believe it is a reference to geographic origin. The title is used for 2 women and one male so is not gender specific. I have tried googling with no luck. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
