I am working on my Francois LaPierre & Jeanne Rimbalt family line. My question involves some remarks in Fr. F. J. Melanson's book , "LAPIERRE", p. i. Melanson speaks of "Jacques LaPierre (b. 1702), the eldest son of Francois and Marie, who married Marie Forest, daughter of Pierre and Marie Richard". I cannot find a son for Francois & Marie named Jacques, except a son by Marie Belou's first marriage, but his name is Jacques Chiasson. Could someone help me solve this mystery? Thanks in advance, Sherry

Hi Folks: My great aunt, Elizabeth NICKERSON d/o James Rupert & Rose Emma (Brackett) , born 30 May 1885 (Late birth registration: 1904, pg 69300956), Halifax, married 29 Mar 1912, Halifax1) Ora Eugene STEEVES, s/o Frederick William & Elizabeth A. (Colpitts), who died 23 Dec 1924 in Aylesford, Kings, NS. She obviously m a Mr. MacConnell prior to November 1927, as her late birth registration was signed 22 Nov 1927 as Lizzie May Nickerson MacConnell. My family remember that she lived in Baltimore, MD however, on checking over the 1930 US census, she & Mr. MacConnell are not listed, so they must have married in NS. Do any of these names ring bells with anyone?? Many thanks, Sandi Bellefeuille Mississauga, ON

Hi All: As I recall, except for a period a few years back when there was a loophole in their software, one has always had to pay to see everything but a relatively small number of C-H back obits. E.g., the Obits CD and their arrangement (which I have never been able to fathom) with Ancestry.com. With most newspapers, it's just a question of how far back things are free. I know that some New England papers allow free on-line access to ten years worth, while other papers give you a week of freebies and that's it. Not sure why this ranks as "a dirty trick." If you right click on the obituary, you can save it as a picture in the "My Pictures" folder of your "My Documents" folder (in Windows), and transcribe it at you leisure later, or simply paste it as a picture into a page. I have only just become aware of the latest dirty trick that the above mentioned "newspaper" has played on the genealogical community. It is a bit worse than I figured. You see, my partner in genealogical crime, my mother, passed away a year ago, and I found it difficult to think about our grand project and have avoided it for almost a year. It still is hard to go on because I see all of her work and remember all of the great quests and discoveries we made and still have to make. I was keeping close tabs on the people of Meteghan, Digby Co. I don't know if there are others who have been interested in this same area who might be willing to share obits from the last year, primarily of Acadians in Clare, with me. I wrote a nasty letter to the "newspaper" but of course, we all know that the newspaper format is doomed like the abacus and if the Chronically Horrid thinks they can put that off by charging genealogists for obits, they are more dillusional than I thought. Grumpily yours Paul
