    3. Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S. Tuesday, 17 Nov 1942: Westville Boy Praised for Bravery by English Air Crew LONDON- Nov.15- The bravery of an injured Canadian tail gunner with the R.A.F. Coastal Command squadron was praised today by other members of the crew of a Whitney bomber, rescued after drifting 75 hours at sea off England's southwest coast. The airman is Sergeant Harry McEwan, Westville, Nova Scotia, who had three ribs broken when his aircraft made a forced landing in the sea but carried out his part in the "dinghy drill" and helped clear it from the sinking aircraft. Other members of the crew were English. The pilot said later after the crew was picked up by a destroyer and taken to hospital that "only for the gunner we might never have been rescued." "McEwan put up a great show," the pilot continued. "We got the dinghy out and filled it with emergency rations and then scrambled aboard. Despite his broken ribs, McEwan held the dinghy against the aircraft. After that he was very quiet. He must have suffered a lot." McEwan's reaction to this praise was modesty. "It did hurt a bit but all I could think of was getting the dinghy out. Everything depended on that." The story of McEwan's bravery was reported by the Air Ministry News Service. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Tuesday, 17 Nov 1942: McCulloch Estate, Truro, Purchased by Dept. of Agriculture The Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture has purchased the McCulloch estate at Bible Hill from the administrators of the estate of Miss Isabella McCulloch, lately deceased. The property, including about four acres of land and a large residence formerly occupied by the late Rev. Dr. William McCulloch and family, abuts the western end of the property of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and has frontage on College Road. The department proposes to use this recently acquired property for college purposes, including the postwar construction of a college residence. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thursday, 19 Nov 1942: Another Airman Reported Gone Word today tells that LAC Wm. Spinney, son of Jake Spinney of Clairmont Avenue, Stellarton, is missing. His wife and eight months old child reside on Pleasant Street, New Glasgow. "Bill" formerly was in the regular army and transferred to the Air Force. More particulars later. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Carolyn Wallace

I don't know which is correct but my father spelled it Lemon and it was his Grandmother. So we use that in our family genealogy. 3. Hi Linda: Yup, the John and Harriet RICHARDSON are the right people. I pretty sure, but wouldn't swear to it, that the Wm. H. CROOKS marker you cited is for the father of the William Henry CROOKS who is first h/o Harriet ;the uncertainty is because the dates on the marker (or at least the transcription of same) are off somewhat (so what's new about that?). The younger William Henry must have died bet 1873 and 1878 and supposedly died 29 Mar 1878. I finally found John W. RICHARDSON's civil Death Register entry, and he dies at Indian Harbour. But there doesn't seem to be one for Harriet, so the best I can say is that she probably died in Halifax County. Yes, since Matilda (CORKUM) EISENHAUER's death record says that she was born in Chester, which is where Harriet says she was born, and the dates fit, she could be the mysterious Matilda. But that would mean a second and also mysterious (at least to me) Michael EISENHAUER. :-) -----Bob H----- On 4/11/2010 3:49 PM, [email protected] wrote: > Hi Bob, > > St. Peter's Cemetery, Hackett's Cove has: Wm. 3. Might you find more if you spelled "Eisenhauer" as "Isenor", or "Isnor" ? Both Isenor and Lantz are strong names from this area of Hants County.
