    3. The cemetery is located on Lovett's Road, immediately north of the NSP generating station. In fact, at one point NSP maintained it. A friend of mine is fairly familiar with the cemetery. I will see if she has anything else to offer. On 18-Apr-10, at 12:55 PM, Sandi Bellefeuille wrote: > Hi Folks: > > Is it possible to get an exact location of the Tufts Cove > Cemetery? 3. Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, N.S., Thursday, 19 Nov 1942: NEW GLASGOW TEACHER WEDS MacDonald- MacDonald Rev. G.M. Lamont officiated at a quiet wedding at First Presbyterian Church manse, Pictou, when Alexina Rose MacDonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Archibald MacDonald, East End Lighthouse, Pictou Island, was united in marriage to John Harris MacDonald, principal of Temperance Street School, New Glasgow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel K. MacDonald, Thorburn. The bride was attractively dressed in a floor-length turquoise sheer gown with a bandeau of white flowers. The bridesmaid, Miss Elizabeth MacDonald of Lyons Brook, wore a black crepe dress with red and black accessories. Gunner Sidney W, Hooper, R.C.N., of Pictou Island and a cousin of the bride, was groomsman. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Acadia Coal Company Official Farewelled A group of the officials of Acadia Coal Company called on Monday evening at the home of the Overman Vic Weir, Foord Street, Stellarton, to say good-bye to him on the eve of his departure for Halifax where he will again enter the Armed Forces, with Commissioned Rank in the Royal Canadian Engineers. After all had assembled, Overman Bernie MacLellan asked the guest of honor to step forward. He then addressed Mr. Weir in a nicely worded speech, expressing the regret of the company and employees that the harmonious relations which had existed between them must come to an end. Coupled with their regret at his departure, was a feeling of pride in the fact that he was willing and ready to fight again for King and country. The friends assembled wished him every success. Overman Matt Mahoney then presented him with a handsome military style money belt. Mr. Weir, in his own witty manner, thanked the boys for their many expressions of goodwill and the lovely gift. All joined in singing "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow." xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx INDIAN MILL STONES FOUND While clearing out a woodlot at College Grant, near River John, Victor Langille, of West Branch, discovered two large stones, which are believed to be Indian relics. One stone has a reproduction of an Indian head on it. The two stones, almost buried in moss, stand about two feet high and weigh about 150 pounds altogether. They were discovered about four feet apart. The surface of one stone has a ball like protuberance which fits exactly into a depression in the other stone and on close examination by Mr. Langille and others with him at the time, it is believed that the stones were used as mill stones by the Indians many years ago for grinding corn. The Indian head on the larger stone may have resulted from a freak rock formation but it is believed to have been carved. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Carolyn Wallace

Throughout the Annapolis Valley district in particular, as well as in other sections of the province, and in his native Colchester County, there will be widespread sorrow at the news of the death of Edwin McLellan Blaikie, manager of the Valley Creamery in Kingston, Kings.Co. The passing of this widely known and progressive man comes as a great shock, for his illness had been but of a weeks' duration. Not only for his enterprise in business, as he had directed the affairs of the Valley Creamery since 1927 and caused that enterprise to steadily progress yearly, but for his increasing efforts in behalf of all good works, will Mr. Blaikie's death occasion keen regret. In many spheres of endeavor throughout the Valley he has given helpful leadership and valued support to a variety of causes. In all community drives in Western Kings County he was to the fore as an untiring worker. He had been a director of the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival since 1933 and was one of its most ardent supporters. He was also known to many for his efficiency in the office of Census Commissioner for the area. In the ranks of Masonry he held an esteemed place and was a Past Master of Markland Lodge No.99 and was also an official of the Grand Lodge. In the realm of sport, he was known to many in Nova Scotia for his love of horses and was a familiar figure at horse racing meets, having owned a number of horses which he raced. Mr. Blaikie was educated in his native Great Village, and his business career has always been linked with the creamery trade having started with his uncle T.D. Blaikie, Great Village. He was the son of Mrs. Mary McNutt Blaikie and the late G.W. Blaikie, Great Village, where his mother still resides. He is survived by six sisters, Heloise and Doris, Truro; Elizabeth, Greta, Sarah and Jean of Great Village; six brothers, Cecil, Sam and Walter, Great Village; Kenneth, Calgary; Paul, Mid. Musquodoboit; Stanley, Truro. By his many personal qualities he won a wide circle of friends. The funeral service at Kingston will take place at the residence of Mrs. G.A. Tupper, where he made his home, today at 2:30 o'clock, and the body will be forwarded to Great Village where service will be in the United Church tomorrow (Friday) at 2:30. GRANT Florida The sad news of the passing on Saturday of her brother Rev. Donald M. Grant of Penny Farm, Florida, was received by Miss Annie M. Grant, Linacy. While he had not been in the best of health for a time his death was a great shock to his sister. He is survived by his wife, his daughter, Dorothea, and his sister, Annie, and a brother, Willliam, who with his wife recently returned to the old home in Linacy. Hi All: I am pleased to report that Jeff Parks wins the coveted Genealogical-Good-Deed-of the-Day (GGDD) Award by coming up with somebody whose index entry takes one to the page on which the marriage I was looking for is actually displayed. I will have to think up a suitable award for Ron McDougall and Dwayne Meisner, who placed second and third, respectively, by a matter of minutes. :-) So now I can confidently assert that the Enos Warden BAKER who m. Hermie EISENHAUER was indeed the s/o Jacob Andrew and Marjorie (HEISLER) BAKER. Huzzah, as our early 19th century relatives might have said. My thanks to all who responded! -----Bob H---- -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Genealogical Good Deed Needed Date: Fri, 16 Apr 2010 17:46:10 -0400 From: Bob Hegerich <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]>, [email protected] <[email protected]>, Levy, Fran <[email protected]>, NS Vitals Database Tech Support <[email protected]> Hi All: Enos Warden BAKER is b.20 Aug 1873 at Chester Basin, s/o Jacob Andrew and Marjorie (HEISLER) BAKER. He d. 1906, probably at Chester Basin, and is bur. United Church Cemetery, Chester. I am pretty certain that, in 1902, he m. Hermie Clyde EISENHAUER , b. 11 Sep 1882 at Marriott's Cove, d/o Joseph Alfred and Maria Elizabeth (CROOKS) EISENHAUER (please feel free to spell EISENHAUER any way you would like). But therein lies the rub. According to the NSHVS Index, Enos' marriage to Hermie (who apparently is indexed as Hermie Diana EISNOR) occurs in 1902 and is registered as Year: 1902 - Book: 1829 - Page: 263 - Number: 42. But the link on the NSHVS site takes you to a page that begins with #43. Therefore, at the moment, I cannot prove that the Enos who m. Hermie in 1902 is Enos s/o Jacob Andrew. So . . . Could I possibly ask SKS who either has a transcription of their marriage record, or is going to NSARM in the near future, to do a Genealogical Good Deed and obtain/pass along a transcript of said marriage record. At least two of us who have spent some time figuring this one out would be most grateful. Thanks. -----Bob H-----

    3. Hello, To add to Beverly's list, I am from Guysborough County and in many cases, 50 years ago and more, all grades were not taught in all schools. I lived in Goldboro, east side of Isaac's Harbour, where I completed Grades Primary through 10. The teacher in our school was not qualified to teach Grade 11 but in the school in Isaac's Harbour, on the west side of Isaac's Harbour, there was teacher who could teach Grade 11. For most of the school year I got to school by rowing a skiff boat across the harbour, in the morning, and back across in late afternoon. The only times I didn't row were when there was a very strong wind or when there was ice, in the harbour, in the winter. Times I couldn't row, I either walked around the harbour or bicycled around the harbour. This has added 2 more ways of getting to school, by rowing a boat and by bicyleing. There must be more. Walking By horse By horse and buggy By horse and sleigh Bike Car School Vans Train -- yes that is right I said "TRAIN" Maybe some travelled boat or make shift Ferry perhaps from an Island (with no school) to the mainland or across a river (where no bridge was available near by, or across a bay where no roads existed.
