The book Ted has been referring to is "A History Of the Parish Of Gedling In The County Of Nottingham" by Charles Gerring. It's a quite fascinating book, originally published in 1908. The Notts County Council Community Services reprinted it in a limited run of 300 copies in 2000. It covers the church, various houses and roads, and includes notes on Carlton, Netherfield, Thornywood and Stoke Bardolph. There's a large section of marriages (1558-1812) as well as some rather bizarre miscellaneous records, such as the 1663 Heath Tax records! I don't imagine it's easy to find, but it's worth a read if you have any ancestors from the area. John Peel
