    3. Speaking of Find My Past .  Does anyone know how to get the news articles from that site into an editable text ? There are some long articles that would take an age to re-type .  I know I could print off , on to an A4 sheet and then via the scanner run it through an OCR programme but is there on on-screen way ? .  Have even tried without success of taking a picture of a page that is on my laptop screen with my tablets OCR app . Just got goobledy-gook ! . 3. As far as I know David, that's the only way. It's a real shame since I like to add mark-up into such articles to highlight people, places, dates, etc., and so make them searchable and link them to parts of my tree. I could be wrong but I don't know of any newspaper archive that will allow you to copy a plain-text version of an article. If there's a reason for this then it escapes me. 3. Tony, David, The easiest way I have found to highlight the article and add notes is to save the pdf of the page, then use the 'Sticky Note' capability of Acrobat Reader to make notes. It also serves to highlight the point of interest on the page when you return to it at a later stage. Dai On 31/10/2013 10:31, Tony Proctor wrote: As far as I know David, that's the only way. I've just tried it with my blog on Benedict Cumberbatch and it worked for me. You may have to edit out a few extraneous references which have been captured by the selecting, but it's not a problem. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Famous family trees blog: http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/tag/roy-stockdill/ "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." There are some long articles that would take an age to re-type . You need MS Word or LibreOffice/OpenOffice Writer. The basic process is to copy the webpage in its entirety to a new document. If you're clever, you can select just the part of the webpage containing the text of the article, and copy that. Start a new, empty document and Paste what you've copied from the webpage. With LibreOffice and OpenOffice Writer, this can be pasted in several ways, but the best choice is probably as HTML. Then, what you get looks more or less like what appears on the web. From there, it all depends on what you want to do with the document. If you want more details, contact me off-list. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg

    3. There is a free pdf reader with built in OCR capability called PDF-XChange viewer. Results obviously depend on the quality of the original but you may find it worth a try. Google should find it for you - I don't have the URL to hand.
