The purpose of a PDF is to stop editing.... not always as useful as it sounds. Do you have a scanner with Optical Word Recognition? You could try scanning it into WordPad or the Open Office Writer. Thanks all for the replies . I don't have MS Office so Onenote doesn't seem to be an option . I know I can print off the pdf and then use the OCR but thats a bit of a faff for lots of pages . Unless you have paid access to the Newspaper archives on Find My Past its difficult to give an example . However here is a similar type of page on the Trove news archives website thats free for anyone to access . The scanned original article is in the right hand pane and they very usefully provide an online ocr'd editable text in the left pane that you can copy and paste . Unfortunately Find My Past don't do this . So imagine trying to make the right hand pane into editable text . By the way the highlighted sensational article involves one of our families ancestors . A story kept secret and I only happened on it by accident . http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/44323753?searchTerm=bickley%20dilks%20mason&searchLimits= On Thursday, October 31, 2013 11:03 AM, Acorn Cottage <orange.wasps@live.co.uk> wrote: The purpose of a PDF is to stop editing.... not always as useful as it sounds. If you have any OCR software David then it should be able to process a jpeg/tiff image (i.e. without having to print it off again and process the hard-copy). If you have a pdf file then it may process that directly although it's usually quite easy to capture a section of a pdf as a jpeg image. I saved a copy of that newspaper image on the Express site, and put this into OneNote here. There were a lot of errors in the text recognition but it might still be easier to correct the errors than to re-type the whole lot. I can do the conversion for you and return the text if you want to send me an image of your choice. It's no problem.
