Hi All, I wonder if I may call on your combine expertise to help me break down ONE of my long standing brick walls. My father's cousin is coming up to 95 yrs old in December 2013(b.1918). Her daughter informs me that her mum has always believed that her parents weren't married. All of the information that we have collected indicates to me that they were indeed married. BUT I cannot find the marriage. I am sure that it would please an old lady so much to see written proof of her parents marriage. My cousin's parents were: Bertie Owen WARDLE & Sarah Jane Mc NAMARA On the 1911 Census Bertie was in Sheffield Barracks.(Northumberland Fusiliers) Sarah Jane Mc NAMARA was staying with Bertie's parents (Gilbert and Amy WARDLE in Gregory Boulevard, Hyson Green, Nottingham (she had a daughter Phyllis McNAMARA.) It may well be that the couple married late 1911 to 1912 because in 1912:Son Bertie Francis born 19th August to Bertie Owen WARDLE Postman & Sarah Jane WARDLE formerly Mc NAMARA of 25 Bradwell St Sheffield 1915:Son Gilbert born 6th Mar: to Bertie Owen WARDLE Private Northumberland Fusiliers (Postman) & S.J.WARDLE (Formerly Mc NAMARA) 6 Athol Terrace Egypt Rd, Nottingham. Registered 16th April 1915. Died in Sheffield 1920. These two certificates (and others) indicate to me that Bertie & Sarah J. were married, but where? Possibly in Sheffield c1912. Possibly in Nottingham. Sarah Jane Mc NAMARA died May 1920 in Sheffield. Bertie re-married in May 1921 to Minnie BANKS. There were/are many non conformist churches in the Basford/Hyson Green area. My hope is that records still exist for the relevant period but there doesn't appear to be any lists of such churches or records. Ancestry searches for Sheffield and Nottingham have proved fruitless.
