    3. I have bought over 70 bmd's over the years and have helped many people without any thought of cost and time. I also have what is probably one of the largest personal family history websites on the net with over 100 pages of info that is available to anyone that is connected in anyway to the Gagg families. I used to have an ancestry subscription , but as I had completed my own research it became uneconomical to keep it up just for the odd query from other parts of the Gagg family. This query was from the young daughters of a part of the Gagg family I had not heard of from before and I have passed on what info I had which is extensive on the Misterton family. But not on their part of that family , which is why I asked for any help. Fortunately not everyone is an ungracious un generous person like you. (I am being polite here) like you, and I have had a response from Peter Gainsborough that helped enormously and has been passed on to the Gagg family in question. -----Original Message----- From: nottsgen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nottsgen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Roy Stockdill Sent: 18 December 2008 21:01 To: NOTTSGEN@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NTT] Charles Henry Gagg info request From: "Alan M Gagg" <alanmgagg@f2s.com> > I am looking for any info on Charles Henry Gagg born in sept > quarter1883,register district gainsborough, we know he married > Charlotte Ann Wass in 1905 and one of their children was Walter Gagg > born in 1918. > > Any info on whom his parents/ siblings were would be most appreciated. > There is a very simple solution to this query. Why don't you buy the birth certificate, since you apparently know when and where he was born? This will give you the names of both his parents instantly, or is that too obvious? This will cost you £7.00, but sometimes family history does cost money, just like any other hobby! You could also look at the 1891 and 1901 censuses. He is very easily found in 1891 at Misterton, Lincolonshire, along with his mother, who was a widow, and three siblings. If you can't afford the subscription, then Ancestry and Findmypast are available free at many public libraries. I will give you a clue - the mother's name was Betsy and she was a washerwoman, aged 28. Then try looking at marriages at Gainsborough at FreeBMD and find a Betsy or Elizabeth who married a Gagg. I don't see the problem apart from the fact that you seem to be asking others to do your research for you. I am very sorry to seem unkind or unhelpful but, really, this sort of query annoys many of us because it seems to me you are simply trying to get people to help you for gratis and not doing anything to help yourself. Buy the birth certificate before anything else! It will tell you what you want to know, i.e. who his parents were. You can buy it online from the GRO website, using the reference you obviously already have - Charles Henry Gagg, Sep qrtr 1883, Gainsbro, vol 7a page 720. Then take out a subscription to Ancestry or Findmypast and check out the censuses - or find a library that has them for free. This is how the rest of us do it. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 3. Right on Alan. Talk about a self opionated wanka - get your head into the real world Roy and stop making everyone, who may not have the same where-with-all as you, feel like second class citizens or family historians. Your little saying at the end of your epistles says it all as far as I am concerned. You just l o v e to be talked about.
