    3. Hello All I have been working on the family history for a friend (as if I do not have enough of my own family to do) and I have reached a puzzling point. I can trace the family of ALLSOP(P) back to the birth of Charles in 1877 in Chetton, Salop. I have the copy of this birth entry. It tells me his parents were William ALLSOP and Ann (formerly EVANS). My problem is to locate this William and Ann in other records (census, marriage etc). Ok, I can hear you thinking, go to the 1881 census. Charles will be 3 yr old and this will tell me about his parents. And yes there he is, living as a boarder (!) with Edward & Elizabeth GARBETT in Harborne. He is still boarding with them in 1891, and is still there (as a visitor!!) in 1901 after he married. So the census is no help........... #$%^&**!! There are no records for marriage or death of William and/or Ann on FreeBMD that I can find. So now we come to Notts and my problem.... The only marriage record I can find that fits (almost) is for William ALLSOP and Sarah EVANS, married Sept Qtr 1869 in Mansfield. Could Ann also be known as Sarah? This William and Sarah are in the 1881 census at Mansfield Woodhouse, aged 49 and 53. Also with them is a Dorothy EVANS, daughter, aged 21 unmarried and 3 Allsop children aged 18, 15 and 12. So Sarah was probably formerly EVANS, and has remarried to William. But if this couple were the parents of Charles, born 1877, she would have been 49 or 50 at the time. Is this likely? With 4 other children at home, why was young Charles boarding with the GARBETT family for the rest of his life? When Sarah EVANS remarried, would her married or maiden name be the one recorded? All ideas greatly received. Paul Froggatt Researching FROGGATT, CATTLEY, GOLDSWORTHY, GOODLIFFE See [1]http://www.frogs.co.nz References 1. http://www.frogs.co.nz/
