I am trying to get some information on my grandparents who came over to Canada about 1909. I have obtained some information from ancestry.uk on a William James and Caroline Bennett that may or may not be factual and would hope that there is someone out there that can give me confirmation or more information that I can work with. William James - In the 1891 census I have a 6 year old William James as an inmate in a Union Workhouse in Nottingham North East. Is there a record of inmates for Union Workhouses?. - In the 1991 census I have a 16 year old William James in the Royal Navy. - In Jan 1909 William left the Navy - I believe he may have "jumped ship". Caroline Bennett - in the 1891 census - Living at 222 Long Hedge Lane - father- Reginald, mother - Mary, sibs - Gertrude, George, Albert, Annie, Martha, Mary, Florence and Alice Caroline Bennett - in the 1901 census - Living at 131 Pym St- father- Reginald, mother - Mary, sibs - Annie, Martha, Mary, Florence and Alice. In 1909, after his "leaving" the RN, William and Caroline get married and come to Canada under the name William and Caroline Jamieson. In 1915 William changes his family name back to James and joins the Canadian Army under that name. He is sent to England and the family follows him over. The destination address given was Carisbrooke Road, Nottingham. The family returns to Canada in 1919. I would very much like to hear from anyone who has information on these families. Thank you Kathy Maclean
