Deaths were not registered in national records until after civil registration was introduced into England and Wales on 1st July 1837. All you are likely to find is a burial entry in a parish register and in the mid-18th century, when Thomas probably died, you are unlikely to find the precise date of death. Normally, all you can do is assume it took place within a few days of the burial. The National Burial Index, which is found at Findmypast.com, has details of 31 Thomas Allens buried in Nottinghamshire, but none before 1791 which is too late for your purposes. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
