Adele Wikepedia (not always 100% reliable), claims that Attenborough was known as Addensburgh in Saxon times. This is confirmed by the local council website - Broxtowe, which says "The origin of Attenborough lies in Saxon times and derives from the name "Adenburgh" which means "the settlement of Adda's people". Adda is thought to have provided the first chapel here, a clay and wattle "House of Prayer" in 946AD. The present day stone chancel of St. Mary's Church is built on this site and is thought to have existed in 1042. It is recorded in the Doomsday Book of 1086."
