    3. We had a talk about censuses at our local family history society meeting last Friday, and I learnt something that I thought I would pass on. Apparently enumerators were advised of the official difference between a Lodger and a Boarder, so that they could be properly recorded. Basically, a boarder is one who eats at the same table as the head of the household (or his family one presumes), but a lodger is one who doesn't. This may shed a slightly different light on the status of such people we find, in relation (no pun intended) to the household in which they are staying. Incidentally, both of our local Family History Societies (Notts and Leics) are well worth joining, and each has a very good programme of monthly talks which are always of interest and dare I say it, educative.
