    1. [NTT] House called Springhead

    3. Hi: At the age of 14 my grandmother, Annie Rebecca Parnham was hired as a nursemaid (at a hiring fair in 1894) for a family who lived at a house called Springhead in Bulwell. Does anyone know anything about this house, where it was situated or where I could get a picture of it. I would also like to know the name of the family she worked for. I have a vague recollection of my mother telling me that it was a military family, but I really can't remember. I remember visiting the house when I was very young, (around 1949), but the only thing I can remember is that they had snowdrops in the yard. I wanted to pick them and wasn't allowed to. My grandmother worked there until 1900, the year she was married. Any information would be appreciated. Barbara

    3. I tried the address seach at find my past for 1891 but could not pull anything up, but Google took me to Springhead Court, Bulwell, North of Nottingham centre. Advertisements suggest it s a block or blocks of flats. Also I read Springhead Park, so my guess would be that the large house, as so many, was demolished to build the flats in 1950s-1980s. I'm sure somebody local could be more helpful. 3. Barbara, I paged through the 1901 census for Bulwell, and Jean is right, there are no names to any properties, hust street names and house numbers. It is named in 1891 though. The owners then may well have moved by 1894 as they were Rebecca Charles Head widow 77 Living on own means born Leics ?Hoton? Edward son 40 single Bleacher & Dyer born Bulwell Caroline dau 33 single Living on own means born do Sybil Yates 6 born Warks, Sutton Coldfield [relationship blank] Elizabeth Glew Servant 21 Cook Notts Wallow Eliza A. Gent Servant 22 Housemaid born Derby Chesterfield. The property was the first in the Town of Bulwell, the next property was identified as No. 1 Holly Place. The previous schedule was the end of the Hamlet of Bagnall. FreeBMD has Deaths Jun 1891 Charles Rebecca 77 Basford 7b 141 Having got here, I searched for Edward Charles in 1901 and found him at Springhead with No. 5 Holly place next door. It is now not identified as the ecclesiastical parish of Bulwell but the civil parish of Nottingham. That probably explains why in 1901 there is just one registration district for Bulwell, whereas in 1891 the are about 10. The next address after Springhead is Bagnall Rd., so it looks as if it was on the corner of Bagnall Rd and Holly place. I'm afraid that I can't help with photos. 3. Oops, I made a slip in my note. It is now not identified as the ecclesiastical parish of Bulwell but the civil parish of Nottingham. Should read It is now identified as the ecclesiastical parish of Bulwell but the civil parish of Nottingham.
