    3. Last September I asked the TNA this question, their answer is below: ~~~~~~~~~~~ thank you for contacting The National Archives. BrightSolid will be the sole online provider of the 1911 census through findmypast.com for a period of 6 months from the final content launch in 2009. The census will launch in 3 tranches - England, Wales and Ships and Islands. Once the complete census has been operating successfully for 6 months, The National Archives will deem the contract to be fulfilled, and the digital images will be deposited here for re-sale and re-licensing to other providers. ~~~~~~~~~~~ I wouldn't like to second guess who will decide (nor when) the FMP version has been "operating successfully for 6 months", but TNA should then be able to offer the images to ancestry et al. New indexes will of course have to be done, as the FMP ones are copyright to them. If anyone is going to WDYTYA this year, maybe a question to TNA and Ancestry might elicit more detail. It might also be worth pointing out to TNA that the current indexing leaves a lot to be desired. Wonder where FMP get their 98.5% figure from? Certainly not those transcripts I've bought nor even the search results I've seen. JK - in a very wet, chilly, and miserable looking London! 3. Can I assume that the wildcard search everyone is talking about is the one where you dont insrt a surname and replace it with a full stop or comma etc? I have just tested it and if you put the christian name and place of birth, county or town etc it works without anything in the surname space. Do I have the best laptop in the country or has it been openned up for us?
