    3. Hi Diane: Don't know how much this helps but according to FreeBMD John James BELL was born and died in the same Quarter in 1853. So he was an infant. Neither John or Hannah are listed in the NBI on Find My Past. If it helps, when ordering a certificate from the GRO you can specify some conditions, such as parents names on a birth or spouse name or age on a death and if it does not match then you get a refund of about half on the price. Durham in 1820. It would appear he may have travelled first to America to work "for his uncle Richard" (family lore - unproven), then returned to marry Hannah BRUMBY of Mareham le Fen, Lincolnshire in 1842. They had a son, Henry, in December 1851, in Boston, Lincs before moving to Nottingham. In June 1854 James marries again in Nottingham (St. Mary's) to an Ann SAVAGE, daughter of John, Blacksmith. Their residence is given as Union Road, Nottingham. Three of their seven children are born in Nottingham before the family move on again to Derby where they finally settle. I am interested in trying to find out what happened to Hannah BELL, James' first wife, between 1852 and 1854 and wondered about two possible death references in Nottingham...One for a Hannah BELL who died in Sept. Qtr 1853 and another within the same quarter for a John James BELL (family name pattern). If John James were an infant this may explain what happened. Times have changed and I can no longer afford to send off for one death certificate after another until I "get it right" so could I possibly ask a huge favour? If anyone happens to be searching Nottingham burial registers for their own families and comes across an entry for a Hannah BELL please could you let me know? If Hannah did die in 1853 she would have been 33 years old. Thank you so much...and I hope I haven't offended anyone with such a broad request! Diane Johansen Researching BELL, Co. 3. You are absolutely right about the extra info and the refund, but this can work against you! I was 95 % certain that I had located my Duncan Campbell's death in London around 1912, aged 70. I said that his occupation (lifelong, at least from his marriage in his mid 20s)was saddler. The GRO returned my request, with the refund, saying he did not have the right occupation. (It was some kind of metal band worker) Very surprised, I resubmitted my request. It was indeed my greatgrandfather. The informant was his son, Arthur, present at the death, who lived in Belfast, and listed his OWN occupation on his father's death certificate! Fortunately I had plenty of supporting information to realise what had happened. Mistakes can, do, and did happen.
