Hi Jan I'm afraid you need the marriage certificate to determine there ages and their father's' name and occupations. It's important, because without it you might go down the wrong tree so to speak. Once you have that you can determine their approximate date of births, then look on FREEBMD for a match, it's not easy when you search in what i call the grey area between 1901 to 1911 so it's important to get it right. If you need further help please don't hesitate to contact me or ask for more help via the list. Is Janny a nick name or her real name?. I am assuming Florence and Walter are no longer with us, if you know where and when they died we can find when they were born, please let me know. Good hunting. Their names are Walter Harris who married Florence May Reed (daughter of Janny Reed) in the Mansfield Registration District. They married in 1922 and had Arthur E. in 1923 and Barbara M in 1924. This is as far as we have got up to now as it is a common surname and a blanket search has thrown up so many variable I have had to ask on here. I hope someone can point me in the right direction. May I suggest that you also try www.findmypast.com ? . It is the official GRO site for records. I started with a per item membership, but very quickly upgraded to annual membership. I could then trawl the records without extra fees. If you want to look up just a few things then the brief, itemised starter works well. Frequently I have found a considerable amount of information just by using this. freeBMD is good, but there are gaps. I find that switching between that, Ancestry and findmypast I can get quite a long way They each work differently. You might be able to find many of those people in all BMD, but I agree, you need the marriage cert to start. Mothers' maiden names are given from 1911 (or 1912) onward for example Jean > Message du 03/01/09 14:06 > De : "P WILLIAMS" > A : "jan rockett" > Copie à : "nottsgen" > Objet : Re: [NTT] Harris family > > Hi Jan I'm afraid you need the marriage certificate to determine there ages and their father's' name and occupations. Hi Jean You say "It is the official GRO site for records" Not sure why you think that, like several other sites they have paid for the right to use the GRO index on their site but its nothing official, they have other partnerships with the National Archives for some other types of records as have other suppliers such as Ancestry Images of the GRO index can be viewed via freebmd homepage up to and including 1935, its slow but fine for occasional use If you are going to subscribe to a GRO index supplier I would look around as there are several suppliers and depending upon your needs you may find a much cheaper option more suitable to your particular needs (some offer different search options which may be worth considering) Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) > May I suggest that you also try www.findmypast.com ? .
