    1. [NTT] THORNTON/BROWN marriage
    2. The entry in the St Mary's Nottingham marriage registers published in Phillimore gives the information as already described by Brian Taylor: 12 Apr 1721, William Thornton of Cotgrave m Mary Brown, this p., lic. However, in Nottinghamshire Marriage Licences you can read: 14 April 1722 Wm THORNTON of Cotgrave, whittower, 25, & Mary BROWNE p. St Marys Nottm, spr., 24, at St Marys As I was at the Notts University Archives yesterday - this is where the Notts marriage licences are stored - I checked to see whether they had this particular licence but unfortunately they don't. This is bad news as it is probably lost (unless someone knows different). It's very unusual to have a whole year's difference in dates. There are mistakes in Phillimore but they are few and far between. Ditto Notts Marriage Licences. The only reliable check that you can do now is to look at the PRs for Nottingham St Marys which are held in Notts Record Office. You can look at these on fiche. Maybe some kind Lister will do that for you - or try ringing/emailing the RO yourself - they may help as it's such a 'narrow' look-up. Hope this helps Ruth
