Heather, Thanks for that. I not only use the Reunion program but also a word processing program for notes etc. I made a template so that the setting would be the same for these notes from one family to another. I have a footer which contains the following information: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ p# of # Modified - 22/1/09 Created - Wed 31 Mar 2004 RD-Registration Distrct SRD-Sub Registration District (If not shown, same as RD) ED-Enumerator's District EP-Ecclesiastical Parish f-folio p-page s-schedule GRO Indexes - Age at death from Jun 1866: mother's maiden name from Sept 1911: spouse's surname from Mar 1912: date of births in deaths from 1969 10 Mar 1801 27 Mary 1811 28 Mary 1821 30 May 1831 7 Jun 1841 30 Mar 1851 7 Apr 1861 2 Apr 1871 3 Apr 1881 5 Apr 1891 31 Mar 1901 2 Apr 1911 19 Jun 1921 26 Apr 1931 (destroyed) 29 Sep 1939 (WW2 Nat Reg 100 yr closure) 8 Apr 1951 23 Apr 1961 26 Apr 1971 5 Apr 1981 21 Apr 1991 29 Apr 2001 (100 yr closure) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first line contains a page number and a page count: also a modification date, together with a created date; The second line reminds me of the abbreviations I use for each census extraction in the body of the document. The third line reminds me of the dates relevant in a search in the GRO indexes. The final line reminds me of all the census dates. The font is very small in the document, but of course it will still "waste" some space in the body of the document. However the advantage to having it at my "fingertips" outweighs the disadvantage of having a "shorter" page. You are so right, it is extremely interesting to learn how other people have solved these various recording problems we face. Many thanks JK On Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 7:54 PM, The Quineys <pquiney@post.com> wrote: > Hi JK > > By all means copy my use of the actual census date for BEFs and AFTs - I > probably got the idea from someone else in the first place ;-) If you > need a full list of dates, try http://rmhh.co.uk/dates.html, though I > see 1911 release date hasn't been updated yet. > > Re: entering GRO quarter dates - if I see something along the lines of > "Bet Jan-Mar 1850", I tend to recognise it as GRO entry.
