Dear list, I am looking for information on a Joseph Haycock who was born between 1823 and 1831 in Worksop , Nottinghamshire, England based on various census records. He is listed in the 1861 census living in Sheffield, Yorkshire with his first wife Mary, Mary Cook and her son Joseph Cook. In 1862 he married Maria Bailey CAWTHORN in Sheffield. In the 1871 census he is still living in Sheffield with wife Maria and 4 daughters Sarah, Fanny Jane, Maria and Lucy. Joseph may have had a brother named John who was born 27 Feb 1820 in Worksop to Ann Haycock who is single. There is a family story that John and/or Joseph may have been the son(s) of the Duke of Portland. The story also includes a reference to an investigation in the early 1900s which resulted in several documents which were supposed to have been destroyed.
