    3. Bruce, There is no mention of Joseph on the Notts FHS CD. John however is there: John mother: Ann HAYCOCK bap 1820_02_27 Worksop Priory (St Mary & St Cuthbert) Abode: Bridge St Profession: Singlewoman Dai Bruce P Barrett wrote: > Dear list, > I am looking for information on a Joseph Haycock who was born between 1823 and 1831 in Worksop , Nottinghamshire, England based on various census records. He is listed in the 1861 census living in Sheffield, Yorkshire with his first wife Mary, Mary Cook and her son Joseph Cook. In 1862 he married Maria Bailey CAWTHORN in Sheffield. In the 1871 census he is still living in Sheffield with wife Maria and 4 daughters Sarah, Fanny Jane, Maria and Lucy. > Joseph may have had a brother named John who was born 27 Feb 1820 in Worksop to Ann Haycock who is single. There is a family story that John and/or Joseph may have been the son(s) of the Duke of Portland. The story also includes a reference to an investigation in the early 1900s which resulted in several documents which were supposed to have been destroyed. > Does anyone have any information about Joseph, John or this story? 3. Dai, Thanks for checking. Do you happen to know if all the parish records around Worksop have been transcribed? Joseph shows he was born in Worksop on every census where he is listed.
