Was he in the Boer War? I have been told this was the war he was in but I don't know. I was also shocked at the way it was worded on census not fail if this is what happen to this man.Sure means something else in the USA. Jo-Ann In a message dated 11/12/2011 5:08:54 P.M. I would very likely arrive at a similar conclusion - poor man, and so young, like those in fighting zones now. Was he in the Boer War? Or maybe in India. He could not have been active much before 1895 and perhaps a bit later. BUT I am much amused to read that his condition was transcribed at least - and maybe on the original too (I have not looked) as DEATH and dumb!! My husband suggests he was having a worse day than usual when the enumerator called. Seriously, it shows the devasating effects of war which at no time, or in any place could be considered anything but horrendous and tragic for all parties.
