It's my belief that most Framework Knitters were in fact Piece Rate workers: paid for the amount of saleable work that they produced. As such they would effectively have been self-employed. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg

    3. Hi, In June 2011 I photographed various buildings in Woolpack Lane in relation to my great-grandparents who resided at Woolpack Lane while getting married at nearby St Marys. Although Woolpack Lane has essentially been rebuilt, I found a building which looks like it could have been constructed for framework knitting and I will be happy to email to you photos I took of it. After all, it might have been where he worked!
