It was a hope that someone somewhere may have found a similar name/ link thank you to the list so sorry to be a nuisance Aileen ----- Original Message ----- From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> Cc: Sent: Saturday, 7 January 2012, 13:58 Subject: Re: [NTT] looking for PECHE From:               A durn <[email protected]> > looking for any information on the family brothers parents etc > for Bishop PECHE > > > (1162=1188) > I suggest doing the obvious and Googling him. You will find a Wikipedia entry which comes up as the very first website. He was a medieval Bishop of Coventry and this claims his father was probably also a priest called Robert Peche, also a Bishop of Coventry from 1121-1126. There are several references at the end which may be useful to you. However, could I point out that if you are attemping to establish some sort of descent or connection to him, then you are doing it completely the wrong way round, as so many novices do! It is unwise to take someone famous or with a notable name from the past and research forwards trying to prove a link. More often than not you will end up wasting time (and probably money) on a futile exercise. There is only one way to research genealogy and that is BACKWARDS, a generation at a time, not moving on until you have proved each link. However, since it took several messages from Nivard to extract from you the information as to you it is you are interested in, I don't expect you will take much notice of my advice! As a matter of interest, what is the connection with a Nottinghamshire list? -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about."
